Abstract:
A method and system for determining pressure in a syringe, and more specifically to a syringe pressure accessory which can be connected to a syringe to determine pressure in a syringe and a gastric band. The syringe pressure accessory can detect a pressure of a syringe and/or a gastric band and digitally display the pressure. The syringe pressure accessory can include a durable unit and a disposable unit. The disposable unit can be disposed of after a single use, while the durable unit can be reused with multiple disposable units. The syringe pressure accessory can also include a syringe attachment unit and one or more display units for a caretaker or a patient. The display unit can be wirelessly connected to the syringe attachment unit to display a pressure chart or the results of various analysis of the pressure data. Markers can be added to the pressure chart.
Abstract:
An apparatus for regulating the functioning of a patient's organ or duct includes an elongated member having a first end and a second end. The elongated member has a compressible ventral surface and a substantially rigid dorsal periphery, wherein the elongated member includes a fluid bladder positioned along the ventral surface. A fastener is disposed on the first end of the elongated member. The fastener is configured to engage the second end of the elongated member so that the elongated member forms a loop around the organ or duct. A tension element is disposed for movement within the elongated member. A drive element is associated with and engages the tension element for causing the tension element to control the tension applied by the elongated member against a patient's body organ or duct. Alternate embodiments are also disclosed.

Abstract:
A heartburn and reflux disease treatment apparatus for surgical application in the abdomen of a patient comprises an adjustable restriction device (2) adapted to engage the stomach close to the cardia or esophagus to form a restricted food passageway in the stomach or esophagus of the patient. A post-operation adjustment device (12) is designed to mechanically adjust the restriction device, preferably in a non-invasive manner, to enlarge or restrict the food passageway. The treatment apparatus allows post-operation daily adjustments of the restriction device to enlarge the food passageway when the patient eats and to restrict or close the food passageway between meals.
Abstract:
A heartburn and reflux disease treatment apparatus comprises a restriction device (56) implantable in a patient for engaging the stomach close to the cardia or, which is preferred, engaging the esophagus (58) to form a restricted food passageway in the stomach or esophagus. The restriction device is operable by an implantable operation device (60) to change the restriction of the food passageway. A control device (62 and 64) is provided for controlling a source of energy, which may or may not be implanted, from outside the patient's body, to release energy for use in connection with the operation of the restriction device, i.e. to power the operation device.
Abstract:
A food intake restriction apparatus for an obese patient comprises an energy transmission means for wireless transmission of energy of a first form from outside the patient's body, an implantable operable restriction device for engaging the stomach or the esophagus of the patient to form an upper small pouch of the stomach and a restricted stoma opening in the stomach or esophagus. The restriction device is operable in response to energy of a second form different than the energy of the first form to vary the restricted stoma. An energy transforming means is implantable in the patient for transforming energy of the first form transmitted by the energy transmission means into energy of the second form.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns an implantable device to treat obesity and method using the same. Said device (31) is able to create a repetitive mechanical constraint on a gastrointestinal organ wall and comprises: - an energy source (36), - a mechanical stimulation means (35).
Abstract:
A hydraulic implantable restriction device for restricting a luminary organ of a patient. The hydraulic implantable restriction device comprises: a first hydraulic restriction element adapted to restrict a first portion of the luminary organ, and a second hydraulic restriction element adapted to restrict a second portion of the luminary organ, and a control unit adapted to control the first and second restriction elements for automatically switching between restricting the first and second portion of the luminary organ, for creating a less damaging restriction. The control unit is adapted to automatically switch between restricting the first and second portion of the luminary organ on the basis of at least one of: a lapsed time being between 10 minutes and 6 months, and the patient using the function of the restricted luminary organ.
