Abstract:
A method of removing ash from a wall flow type particulate filter which is arranged in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine in which combustion is performed in an excess of oxygen for trapping particulate matter in exhaust gas, using a solid acid which is carried on the particulate filter, renders the state of the particulate filter a state where the exhaust gas which flows into the particulate filter is lowered in concentration of oxygen and the particulate filter is raised in temperature, and then renders the state of the particulate filter a state where the exhaust gas which flows into the particulate filter in an oxidizing atmosphere contains SOx.

Abstract:
Apparatus (10) arranged in a closed system for removing particulate matter and gases from a polluted gas stream that includes a sorbent particulate charging and injection gun (11) for electrostatically charging sorbent particles and injecting them into a polluted gas stream to charge and agglomerize pollution particles therein, the stream flowing into a collection system housing (54) that contains a series of moving (60, 61, 62) and static (63) filter beds and provides for operations at pressures less than atmospheric, and at temperatures up to two thousand degrees F.
Abstract:
A painting booth (10) comprises a painting chamber (11) inside which the paint is sprayed and which is crossed by an air flow for evacuation of the overspray from the booth. The air flow exiting the booth passes through an overspray removal unit (17) for removing the overspray from the air flow. The removal unit (17) comprises an incoherent mass of cleaning elements (25), possibly pellets, kept in a stirred condition, through which the air flow containing the overspray passes so as to release the overspray onto the elements of the mass. A method for removing the overspray and a plant with the booth (10) and a combustion unit (32) are also described.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A wall flow type particulate filter (24) is arranged inside the exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine where combustion is performed under an excess of oxygen. The particulate filter carries a solid acid. The solid acid has an acid strength which is higher than the acid strength of sulfurous acid and lower than the acid strength of sulfuric acid. To remove the ash from the particulate filter, ash atomization processing for rendering the state of the particulate filter a state where the exhaust gas which flows into the particulate filter is lowered in concentration of oxygen and the particulate filter is raised in temperature is temporarily performed.
Abstract:
A wall flow type particulate filter (24) is arranged inside the exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine where combustion is performed under an excess of oxygen. The particulate filter carries a solid acid. The solid acid has a Hammett acidity function smaller than -0.83 and larger than -12 in the standard state. To remove the ash from the particulate filter, ash atomization processing for rendering the state of the particulate filter a state where the exhaust gas which flows into the particulate filter is lowered in concentration of oxygen and the particulate filter is raised in temperature is temporarily performed.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for filtering gas (58) with a moving granular filter bed (48) involves moving a mass of particulate filter material (48) downwardly through a filter compartment (35) ; tangentially introducing gas into the compartment (54) to move in a cyclonic path downwardly around the moving filter material (48); diverting the cyclonic path (58) to a vertical path (62) to cause the gas to directly interface with the particulate filter material (48); thence causing the gas to move upwardly through the filter material (48) through a screened partition (24, 32) into a static upper compartment (22) of a filter compartment for exodus (56) of the gas which has passed through the particulate filter material (48).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a filter frame (10, 12, 14 and 16) having an interior which contains a granular filter medium (22) when the filter frame is in use, a first main aperture across which a first screen part (18) extends, and a second main aperture across which a second screen part (20) extends, so that a fluid which is to be filtered can pass into the frame interior through one of the screens (18 or 20) and out through the other (20 or 18). The filter frame is provided with further aperture means (24, 26) to enable such a medium (22) to be removed from and/or fed into the interior of the filter frame (10, 12, 14 and 16) whilst the latter is installed for use, without the need to dismantle it.
