Abstract:
The present disclosure discloses a filter media construction wherein at least two layers of a substantially open spacer and at least two layers of a filter media/material are combined in an alternating sequence and coiled around a core to form at least two distinct, continuous or segmented, coil-shaped fluid flow channels that are contiguous but separated by the filter media in radial direction and extend axially from an inlet side to an outlet side of the filter media construction preventing direct fluid flow between the clean and dirty sides of the filter media construction. The spacer maintains substantially uniform width of flow channels in flow direction providing substantially uniform fluid flow. One flow channel is closed to fluid flow at the inlet side forming the clean side and the other flow channel is closed to fluid flow at the outlet side forming the dirty side of the filter media construction.

Abstract:
An air filter that includes a primary filter and a polishing filter. The primary filter comprises a monolith 10 that contains active-particulate. The air-to-be-filtered travels through the primary filter in a path generally parallel to the passageways 12. The polishing filter 36 has first and second major surfaces and also contains active-particulate. The polishing filter is generally arranged such that air travels from the first major surface to the second major surface when passing through it. The inventive filter demonstrates extraordinary performance over the same primary and polishing filters taken individually.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge (322) includes a media pack (326) having first (336) and second (337) opposite flow faces; the media pack (326) comprising flutes extending in a direction between the inlet flow face (336) and the outlet flow face (337); a frame (336) comprising a base member (368) mounted on the second flow face (337) of the media pack (326); a seal support section (372) extending from the base member (368); and first and second opposite and spaced blades extending from the base member and in a different direction from the base member (368) as the seal support (372) section. The first and second blades (380,381) are embedded within the media pack (326) through the second flow face (337). A seal member (325) is oriented against the seal support section (372). The filter cartridge can be removably oriented in a cassette. The cassette and filter cartridge (322) are removably oriented in an air cleaner housing.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided, for forming a filter element including a media pack in the form of a coiled fluted filter media, by winding the web of fluted filter media around a pair of tools of a mandrel. The tools engage the sides of the filter media. The tools define a major axis to provide the media pack with a oblong or elongated shape. The web may be fed at constant linear speed, and/or a motor may be controlled in a manner to provide constant driving torque to maintain a constant tension on the web. The winding apparatus and methods may include apparatus or methods to modify the feed path of the web to adjust the tension of the web as it is being wound. Further, the coiled media packs can be fixtured to prevent relaxation. A method may form various shaped media packs with the same apparatus.
Abstract:
A filter apparatus and method utilize a filter element, defining a longitudinal axis and an axial end thereof, and having a central winding structure and a length of fluted filter material wound about the winding structure with the flutes of the media oriented to provide for filtration of fluid passing axially through the filter element. An edge of filter media defines the axial end of the filter element when the media is wound about the winding structure. An axial end of the winding structure is disposed adjacent the axial end of the filter element. A winding feature extends substantially axially outward from the axial end of the winding structure to a distal end of the winding feature. The filter media is wrapped about the winding structure such that the axial end of the filter element is disposed substantially flush with the distal end of the winding feature.
Abstract:
A fluted filter element (10) may include one or more bridging elements (26, 32, 34) to provide resistance to telescoping of the layers (12) of the fluted filter element (10) . The bridging elements (26, 32, 34) are attached to one or both of the filter faces (22, 24) via adhesives, and/or mechanical means, and may also take the form of one or more beads of adhesive applied across one or both ends of the filter element (10) . The adhesive beads may include a flexible element, such as a string, or strip of material embedded in the adhesive bead.
Abstract:
An air cleaner assembly is provided, which is configured for alternate installation therein of different sized filter cartridges. Features of the air cleaner assembly and components for use therewith, are described. Also methods of assembly and use are described.
Abstract:
A fluted filter media includes a wall of porous filter material separating a first flute from one or more adjacent flutes, and an intermediate flow restriction disposed in the first flute between upstream and downstream ends of the filter media, so that fluid entering the first flute upstream of the intermediate flow restriction is urged to flow through the wall upstream of the intermediate flow restriction into one or more of the one or more adjacent flutes while flowing through the filter media. Where the adjacent flutes include flow restrictions disposed upstream and downstream from the intermediate flow restriction, the intermediate flow restriction urges fluid flowing through the first flute to pass through the wall at least twice between the upstream and downstream ends of the media. Filter apparatuses and methods incorporating such a fluted filter media having an intermediate flow restriction are also provided.
