Abstract:
Disclosed is a device for continuos horizontal casting, especially of strips, comprising a mold (2) that can be attached to a tank for receiving the molten metal, wherein the casting gap (3) which is fitted with a graphite lining and is formed between two cooling bodies (4, 5) forms a shaping solidification section (3a) and a secondary cooling section (3b) attached thereto. In order to provide advantageous construction conditions, the invention provides that the graphite lining be pressed flatly on the billet (22) in the area of the secondary cooling section (3b) by applying prestress.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing an aluminum power transmission rail product with a metallurgically bonded stainless steel cap comprises providing molten aluminum in a tundish; providing a roll formed stainless steel wear cap; pretreating and preheating the stainless steel cap, then introducing that cap into the tundish; co-casting the aluminum and cap through one or more dies; and tensioning the stainless steel cap at an exit of the casting die and rapidly cooling the same. An aluminum-stainless composite product is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A mould for horizontal casting of molten metal comprising a mould body forming an open-ended mould cavity having an inlet end and an outlet end. An annular permeable wall member is mounted in the mould body adjacent the inlet end of the mould cavity with an inner face thereof forming an interior face of the mould. A refractory transition plate is mounted at the inlet end of the mould cavity, this transition plate providing a mould inlet opening having a cross-section less than that of the mould cavity. This provides an annular shoulder at the inlet end of the cavity. Means are provided for feeding molten aluminum through the inlet opening. Separate conduits are also provided for feeding a gas into the shoulder and via the permeable wall means for providing a layer of gas between the metal and the inner face of the mould. A gas that is more reactive with molten aluminum is fed into the shoulder and a less reactive gas is fed via the permeable wall. The reactions with the molten aluminum create a skin or shell on the aluminum which provides smooth passage through the mould and allows for more rapid secondary cooling of the emerging ingot.
Abstract:
A contiunously cast aluminum alloy rod 101 is produced through a horizontal continuous casting method employing a tubular mold which is supported such that its center axis extends substantially horizontally and which has a forced cooling device. The rod includes a Si-rich portion 104 having a thickness of at least 20 μm on a surface of a lateral side of the rod that has a central angle 103 of at least 30°.
Abstract:
An apparatus is described for use in the continuous casting of metal. The apparatus comprises a crucible for molten metal (40) and a die device (2, 4) for cooling and forming the metal into ingots or castings. A valve means (12) comprises a fixed portion (34) on a recessed outlet in the crucible wall and a rotatable portion (42) on the die device housing (2), each portion (34, 42) having a plurality of valve ports (36, 38; 44, 46) which are moved into and out of alignment by rotating the die device (2, 4) by a remote operating means (48). A holding reservoir or well (11) is advantageously provided between the valve portions (34, 42) and the inlet to the die passage (10) of the device (2, 4).
Abstract:
In a method of horizontal continuous casting with a horizontal or inclined mold (1), and heat treating the casting, which is at least partially solidified in the mold, the latter is supplied with melt (13) from a furnace or casting box preferably tippable about the center line of the mold, and via a casting pipe (2), the forward end of which projects into the mold opening. The mold (1) is movable in relation to the pipe (2) and is rotated continuously or stepwise in one direction or turned reciprocally about its center line. Bridging of solidified melt (13) between the pipe (2) and the casting skin (20) solidified in the mold (1) is prevented by a repelling electromagnetic force being caused to act in a substantially radial direction on the melt (13) flowing into the mold (1).
Abstract:
Abstract:
This manufacturing apparatus for a multi-channel tube having a plurality of parallel channels includes: a crucible; and a die set for forming the multi-channel tube from molten copper supplied from the crucible, the die set including: a hollow portion having an inner surface shaped like the profile of the multi-channel tube; punches which are inserted into the hollow portion from an inlet end of the hollow portion to define a space between the inner surface of the hollow portion and each of the punches; and a feed passage which is disposed between the crucible and the space, and configured to feed the molten copper from the crucible to the space, the molten copper being supplied from the crucible to the space within the die set through the feed passage to solidify as it passes through the hollow portion.
