Apparatus and methods for extruding plastic materials are disclosed. An exemplary apparatus comprises: a feeding portion; a melting portion in communication with the feeding portion and configured to transmit heat into material received from the feeding portion; and an output die in communication with the melting portion to permit extrusion of the material. The melting portion comprises: a melting barrel having an inner surface defining a melting chamber in communication with the feeding portion; and a melting insert inside the melting chamber. The melting insert comprises an outer surface in contact with the inner surface of the melting barrel where the outer surface comprises one or more open-ended channels formed therein. In some embodiments, the feeding portion and the melting portion may be thermally insulated from each other and a propeller of the feeding portion may be disposed entirely outside of the melting portion.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for making a conduit divided into channels by one or more strip-shaped substrates. The channels may be used for cables, such as fiber optic cables, coaxial cables, electrical cables, electrical wiring, and the like. Each divided conduit provides channels that allow e.g., cables to be pulled through without snagging or excessive heat build-up due to friction. In addition, the divided conduits do not allow contact or alternation losses between adjacent cables in other channels of the conduit.

An annular die has a mandrel having a spiral groove formed in a surface of the mandrel that distributes a flow of liquid across the mandrel surface and directs the flow of liquid in a flow direction across the spiral groove and across the mandrel surface. At least a portion of the spiral groove has a cross-section configuration where an interior surface of the spiral groove portion is oriented toward the flow direction as the interior surface extends to and intersects with the mandrel surface. The annular die has particular, but not limited, application as a blown film die.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines mit Dämmstoff ausgeschäumten Hohlkörpers oder Hohlraums, wobei ein expandierbares Ausgangsmaterial des Dämmstoffs einer Kunststoff-Extrusionsvorrichtung zugeführt, in dieser unter Druck aktiviert und beim Austrag aus dieser in den Hohlkörper oder den Hohlraum mit derart hohem Volumenausdehnungsgradienten expandiert wird, dass der durch die Expansion gebildete Dämmstoff den Querschnitt des Hohlkörpers oder Hohlraums beim Eintritt unverzögert vollständig ausfüllt. Sie betrifft des Weiteren eine Kunststoff-Extrusionsvorrichtung.

The invention discloses an apparatus for producing microcellular foams, the apparatus having an extruder cylinder (1) having an extruder screw (2) therein provided with a spiral flight (2b) and running around a core (2c), and a feeder unit (8) suitable for feeding a polymeric base material and connected to an inlet (8a) formed on the cylinder (1) and communicating with an inner space (5) delimited by the cylinder (1) and the extruder screw (2), an extrusion outlet (8b) being formed on the cylinder (1), and the apparatus further comprising means for feeding a foaming agent into the inner space (5) and means for rotating the screw (2), in which the essence of the invention is that the means for feeding foaming agent is at least one nozzle (3a) connected to a bore hole (3), a nozzle orifice (3aa) of which, opening into the inner space (5), is situated between a surface (2c1) of the core (2c) and an inner surface (1a) of the cylinder (1) in such a way that the distance between the nozzle orifice (3aa) and the surface (2c1) is greater than 0.

The invention relates to a film extrusion die (1) for producing a single-layer or multilayer blown film. Said film extrusion die (1) comprises at least one melt gap (4) for forming a film layer, said melt gap (4) being formed between two boundary walls (5, 6). At least one melt line (22) opens into the melt gap (4) and becomes a first melt duct (4) within the melt gap (4), said melt duct (4) being formed by recesses (3, 7) in the two boundary walls (5, 6) of the melt gap (4) in at least one sub-section (11, 12, 13, 14) of the extension of the at least one first melt duct (10). The melt duct (10) distributes the melt in the melt gap (4) while tapering in the direction of travel of the melt (4) and merging entirely with the melt gap (4) in the end region (14) thereof (10). The novelty and inventiveness is considered to lie in the fact that in one of its sections (11, 12, 13, 14), the at least one first melt duct (10) is formed exclusively by recesses (3, 7) in one of its two boundary walls (5, 6).

An apparatus and method for manufacturing an object with a varying concentration of particles, with a defined concentration profile are disclosed. In an embodiment, the object with varying concentration of particles is manufactured by mixing liquids comprising different particle concentrations, the proportion in which such liquids are mixed being varied over time. The resultant liquid is cast or extruded into the required shape to form the object with a varying concentration of particles.
