An inflatable cushion for a side of a vehicle is provided, the inflatable cushion having a first sheet of material; a second sheet of material, the first sheet of material being secured to the first sheet of material to define the inflatable cushion; wherein at least a portion of a peripheral edge of the inflatable cushion is defined by a seam wherein the first sheet is secured to the second sheet only by a plurality of stitches and the inflatable cushion maintains an internal pressure in a range of greater than 20KPa and less than 50KPa for at least 1.5 seconds during inflation of the inflatable cushion.

The invention relates to a side airbag (20) for protection of a vehicle occupant with a first elongate chamber (28) at the rear portion (36) of the side airbag (20) and a second chamber (38) at the front portion (37) of the side airbag (20). A divider (32) is provided for dividing the first chamber (28) from the second chamber (38) extending substantially vertically through the side airbag, wherein an overflow passage (35) is provided to supply gas from the first chamber (28) into the second chamber (38). In order to simplify the assembly of the side airbag (20) and to improve the inflation process of the side airbag (20) the dividing wall (32) is formed as dividing seam and the gas overflow passage (35) is located between a top portion (30) of the first chamber (28) and a top portion (39) of the second chamber (38).

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Fahrzeuginsassen-Rückhaltesystem mit einem mit Gas aufblasbaren Gassack (1), der mindestens eine erste Gewebelage und eine zweite Gewebelage aufweist, die entlang ihres Randes (5) mittels einer Umfangsnaht (2) miteinander verbunden sind, und mit mindestens einer Ausströmöffnung (2), über die Gas aus dem Gassack (1) ausströmen kann, wobei die Ausströmöffnung (3) durch eine Unterbrechung der Umfangsnaht (2) gebildet ist. Es ist mindestens eine im Bereich der Ausströmöffnung (3) ausgebildete Zusatznaht (4) vorgesehen, die die Ausströmöffnung (3) zumindest teilweise verschließt, und die derart ausgestaltet ist, dass sie während des Aufblasvorgangs öffnet. Weiter ist vorgesehen, dass Umfangsnaht (2) zur Bildung einer Ausströmöffnung (3) derart unterbrochen ist, dass sie auf beiden Seiten der Ausströmöffnung (3) einen sich im wesentlichen senkrecht zum angrenzenden Rand (51) des Gassacks (1) erstreckenden Abschnitt (21, 22) ausbildet und jeweils am Rand (51) des Gassacks (1) endet.

An airbag (10) for a vehicle occupant restraint system. The airbag includes an airbag body (12) defining an interior (15) of the airbag (10). A series of substantially sinusoidal seams (20) join together portions of the airbag body (12) to partition the airbag interior (15) into a plurality of fluidly communicating chambers (22). It is believed that characteristics of the airbag (10) during inflation and after inflation may be controlled by varying the characteristics of the sinusoidal seams (20).
