A dispensing package includes a container (26) having a neck finish (24) with an axis, a non-circular cross section in a plane perpendicular to the axis, and at least one circurnf erentially extending external engagement element (30) on the neck finish. A closure (22) has a wall (42) received over the container neck finish. The wall has a non-circular cross section corresponding to the non-circular cross section of the neck finish and at least one internal circumferentially extending engagement element (44) in engagement with the external engagement element on the neck finish. The internal circumferentially extending engagement element and/or the external circumferentially extending engagement element has a shallow lead- in angle (32) to enable press-fit of the closure onto the container neck finish and a steep back angle (34) to retard removal of the closure from the neck finish. Rotation of the closure on the neck finish is prevented by the non-circular cross sections of the neck finish and the closure wall.

The invention relates to a container having a rounded triangular cross-sectional shape. The container comprises three rounded comers (16, 17, 18), each connected by a curved line section (13, 14 and 15). The near circular rounded triangular shape provides a container, such as a bottle with an improved ergonomic grip while imparting to the user an impression corresponding at first instance to a regular circular cylindrical container. The container of the present invention allows artwork and labelling used on existing circular cylindrical container and allows bottle handling during and after filling label application and packaging without major modifications to existing equipment.

A plastic container comprises an elastically deformable, substantially cylindrical sidewall, and a plastic ring contacting and embedded into the exterior surface of the sidewall. The plastic ring may optionally include a handle attached thereto. The plastic ring has an inner circumference smaller than the circumference of the plastic container sidewall, so that the container sidewall exterior surface is concave at its point of contact with the plastic ring, thereby providing a grip in the sidewall of the plastic container.
