A printer includes a print engine to print on print media within a print zone, a print media path including a print path portion to direct the print media through the print zone in a first direction, a duplex media path including a duplexing path portion to redirect the print media to the print media path in a second direction opposite the first direction, and a first tandem media tray to hold a first quantity of the print media and a second tandem media tray positioned laterally of the first tandem media tray to hold a second quantity of the print media, wherein the duplexing path portion extends a combined width of the first tandem media tray and the second tandem media tray.
Abstract:
A method for handling cut sheet media in a receiver supply media cassette comprising providing a media tray with a removable media receptacle in the receiver supply media cassette. The media tray is attached to the imaging apparatus to feed the cut sheet media from a first compartment of the removable media receptacle to the imaging apparatus to print a first image on a first side of the fed cut sheet media and receive the printed cut sheet media from the imaging apparatus into a second compartment of the removable media receptacle. The removable media receptacle is flipped the cut sheet media is fed to the imaging apparatus to print a second image on a second side of the fed cut sheet media. The method further includes receiving the printed cut sheet media from the imaging apparatus into the first compartment of the removable media receptacle.

A sheet conveying apparatus(1E), including: a sheet conveying path(6); a reconveying path(6), which is branched from the sheet conveying path; a sheet conveying portion(1F) which conveys a sheet, which is conveyed through the sheet conveying path, selectively between in a forward direction and in a reverse direction toward the reconveying path; and a control portion which controls the sheet conveying portion to temporarily convey, in the middle that the sheet conveying portion conveys a preceding sheet in the reverse direction toward the reconveying path, the preceding sheet in the forward direction together with a succeeding sheet, and thereafter convey the preceding sheet in the reverse direction toward the reconvening path and the succeeding sheet in the forward direction respectively.

A printing system comprising a print station (16) disposed at a sheet transport path (18), a feed section (10) arranged to feed media sheets (60) of different media types into the transport path (18) so as to be fed sequentially to the print station (16), and a controller (20) arranged to receive print instructions concerning images to be printed, to schedule a sequence of the media sheets, and to control the feed section and the print station such that each image is printed on a sheet of a media type that has been specified for that image in the print instructions, wherein a sensor (62) is arranged at the transport path (18) for detecting a quality condition of the sheets being fed to the print station, and the controller (20) is adapted to receive a quality signal from the sensor (62) and, when the quality of a sheet is found to be insufficient, to skip that sheet and to reroute the corresponding image to another scheduled sheet that is compatible with the print instructions.

The present invention provides a printing system (1) with an apparatus (20) for defect detection comprising a sensing unit (21) for sensing a surface geometry or topology of a sheet and for generating data representative of that surface geometry or topology, a processor device (25) for processing the data to detect and classify deformations, and a controller (24) for controlling further progress of the sheet along the transport path of the printing system in dependence upon the deformations detected and classified by the processor device (25). Furthermore, the invention provides a corresponding method of detecting defects in a printing system.
