Abstract:
An aqueous coating composition comprising an autoxidisable polyester resin having ≥ 30 wt% of fatty acid residues; a Tg in the range of from -60 °C to +35 °C; an acid value greater than 15 mg KOH/g and less than 75 mg KOH/g; a Mw in the range of from 2,500 to 100,000 g/mol; said composition having a co-solvent content less that 15 wt% by weight of total composition; a solids content > 30 wt%; and when a film, a telegraphing value of less than 20 gloss units.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to curable film-forming compositions comprising: (a) a polymeric binder comprising a polyester having hydroxyl functional groups; and (b) a curing agent comprising a polyisocyanate having at least three isocyanate functional groups. In certain embodiments, after application to a substrate as a coating and after curing, the compositions demonstrate a Fisher microhardness of at least 120 at ambient temperatures of 15 to 25°C and a softening point greater than or equal to 35°C. Additionally, in certain embodiments, after application to a substrate as a coating and after curing, the compositions demonstrate a 20° gloss recovery of at least 75% when subjected to the dry abrasion test method.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a multi component coating composition that includes a crosslinkable, crosslinking and catalyst components. The catalyst component includes organo zinc cocatalysts, organo tin catalysts, and carboxylic acids. The catalyst component provides long pot life to a pot mix obtained by mixing the aforementioned with components while simultaneously providing a coating resulting from the pot mix with desired coating properties, such as desired early hardness of a coating resulting from a relatively low temperature baking cure cycle.
Abstract:
An aqueous coating composition, which when in the form of a film exhibits an MVTR of ≤ 500g/m 2 /24h comprising 20 to 80 wt% of a polyurethane A with an acid value of 8 to 40mg KOH/g and a hard segment content ≥ 40wt%, a ring structure content ≥ 48 wt% and 80 to 20 wt% of a vinyl polymer B with a Tg ≥ 20°C.
Abstract:
The invention describes a gel resistant, hydrolytically stable polyseter resin with high hydroxyl functionality and carboxylic acid functionality. A waterborne coating composition based on such resins is also described. A method of preparing such waterborne coating compositions is described as well.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to low VOC curable coating compositions suitable for use in various mar and etch resistant coatings, such as in automotive coatings. The binder of the composition includes silicon/hydroxyl and cross-linking components. The silicon/hydroxyl component includes one or more reactive oligomers having a linear or branched cycloaliphatic moiety and at least two functional groups with at least one being a silane or a silicate group, the remaining being a hydroxyl group. Applicants have unexpectedly discovered that by including silane or silicate functionalities in these reactive oligomers, the solids level of the composition can be significantly increased at reduced composition viscosities. As a result, such high solids low VOC compositions can be readily applied by conventional application means, such as by spraying.
