Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a dispersion comprising black polymer particles, such black polymer particles prepared by the process, the use of the dispersion and the black polymer particles in electrophoretic fluids, and electrophoretic display devices comprising such fluids.
Abstract:
Methods of reducing the amount of undesirable by-products in the production of polymers are disclosed. The resulting polyetherimides have lower polydispersivity and enhanced thermomechanical properties. In some embodiments, cyclic and low molecular weight linear oligomers are also obtained.
Abstract:
Non-aqueous emulsions comprise a continuous organic phase comprising an organic vehicle. The non-aqueous emulsions further comprise a discontinuous phase comprising a polyfluoropolyether silane. Methods of preparing surface treated articles therewith are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for making a novel liquid gel mixture comprising at least one flexible polymer carrier, parachlorobenzotrifluoride, optional thermally-conductive materials, and optional performance-enhancing additives; using the liquid gel mixture for making surface-infused layers on layering substrates; and using combinations of surface-infused gel layer and layering substrate in cushioning foams and mattresses. Layering substrates are surface-infused with a liquid gel mixture and may be compressed to increase the penetration depth of liquid gel mixture into the substrate layer surface. This compositions may be used in mattresses, mattress topper pads, pillows, bedding products, furniture upholstery, pet beds, medical cushioning foams, seat cushions and backs, automotive foam, sports cushioning, transportation cushioning, headrests, arm rests, personal protective equipment, toys, and the like.
Abstract:
Incombustible fluorinated hydrocarbons excellent in detergency and stabilities to alkalis, water and heat; and polymer-containing fluids obtained by dissolving or dispersing a film-forming polymer, preferably a fluoropolymer in a solvent containing a trihydrofluorocarbon. Specifically, fluorinated hydrocarbons containing at least 95 % of trihydrofluorocarbons represented by the following general formula and having 4 to 6 carbons; and polymer-containing fluids each containing the fluorinated hydrocarbon: Rf1-R1-Rf2 wherein R1 is a carbon chain composed of CHF and CH2; and Rf1 and Rf2 are each perfluoroalkyl, or Rf1 and Rf2 are bonded together to form a ring.
Abstract:
A process for purifying fluoropolymers by contacting them at temperatures above 140 DEG C with a liquid perfluorinated cycloalkane. The resulting polymers are particularly useful where polymers with reduced impurities are desirable, such as in medical devices and in parts for the semiconductor manufacturing industry. The liquid perfluorinated cycloalkanes improve the adhesion of fluoropolymer to themselves and other materials.
Abstract:
A method of preparing a partially crystalline polycarbonate powder, including: dissolving an amorphous polycarbonate in a halogenated alkane solvent to form a solution; combining the solution with a crystallizing non-solvent that is miscible with the halogenated alkane solvent, under high shear mixing conditions effective to form a partially crystalline polycarbonate precipitate having a D90 particle size of less than 150 micrometers; an average particle diameter of less than or equal to 100 micrometers, or an average particle diameter of 0 to 100 micrometers; and at least 20% crystallinity, or at least 25% crystallinity, or 25 to 35% crystallinity.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method of preparing a polymer dispersion including combining a first solution with a second solution to provide an emulsion, and removing the first solvent from the emulsion to provide a dispersion including a plurality of polymer particles. The first solution includes a first solvent, a polyetherimide, a polycarbonate, or a combination of at least one of the foregoing, and optionally a nonionic surfactant. The second solution includes an aqueous solvent, and optionally a nonionic surfactant. The polymer particles have an average particle size (D50) of less than or equal to 20 micrometers. Also described are polyetherimide dispersions including a plurality of polyetherimide particles, wherein at least 90% of the particles have a particle size less than or equal to 14 micrometers, a nonionic surfactant, and an aqueous carrier.
Abstract:
A solvent composition and method for making same is disclosed having a composition between 26 to 90 weight percent propionate, butyrate, or combination thereof and between 10 to 74 weight percent fluorinated solvent blend, wherein the fluorinated solvent blend includes t-DCE. A polymer solvent system is also disclosed incorporating the solvent composition and dissolved polymers, such as SEBS polymers.
