A curable sealant composition includes a polysulfide having an -SH group, an isocyanate component, and a catalyst component including a first catalyst and an imidazolium catalyst, wherein the first catalyst has the structure (I): wherein R 1 is in the 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 position and R 1 is chosen from H, CH 3 , CH 2 CH 3 , COCH 3 , OCOCH 3 , COCH 2 CH 3 , OCOCH 2 CH 3 , OCH 3 , and OCH 2 CH 3 . R 2 is chosen from H, CH 3 , and CH 2 CH3. The imidazolium catalyst has the structure (II): wherein each of R 3 and R 5 is independently an organic radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, each of R 4 , R 6 , and R 7 is independently H or an organic radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and A - is an anion.

Compositions comprising sulfur-containing prepolymers such as polythioether prepolymers, polyepoxides, and a blocked 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene bicarbonate catalyst useful as aerospace sealants are disclosed. The compositions exhibit extended working time and the curing rate can be tailored for specific applications.

A batch process for preparing a molded optical article includes introducing (i) a dithiol component or (ii) a polyisocyanate component into a reaction vessel; adding a first catalyst of organotin halide to form a first reaction mixture; heating the first reaction mixture; introducing a second catalyst of tertiary amine to the first reaction mixture; mixing a polyisocyanate (ii) into the reaction vessel containing the first reaction mixture if dithiol (i) was first added, or mixing a dithiol (i) into the first reaction mixture if the polyisocyanate (ii) was first added, to form a second reaction mixture; filling a mold with the second reaction mixture to provide a filled mold to form a molded optical article. The molar ratio of elemental tin present in the first catalyst to tertiary amine compound present in the second catalyst ranges from 0.04:1 to 0.29:1.

본 발명은 3-메르캅토프로피온산의 제조방법과 이를 이용한 메르캅토기를 갖는 카르본산에스테르화합물 및 티오우레탄계 광학재료의 제조방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에서는, 3-메르캅토프로피온산을 제조하는 과정에서의 공정 개선으로, 수율을 크게 높이면서 동시에 감압증류 시의 온도를 낮추고 시간을 단축시킴으로써 생성물의 파괴를 막고 생산성을 크게 향상시킬 수 있다. 본 발명은 전체적으로 수행이 어렵지 않은 용이하고 간단한 공정으로 수율과 생산성을 크게 높일 수 있고 최종 수득되는 3-메르캅토프로피온산의 순도 및 색상 또한 우수하므로, 이를 이용하여 저렴한 비용으로 순도 높고 색상이 좋은 메르캅토기를 갖는 카르본산에스테르 화합물을 얻을 수 있고, 이 카르본산에스테르 화합물을 이용하여 역시 저렴한 비용으로 티오우레탄계 중합성 조성물과 이를 중합시킨 티오우레탄계 광학재료를 얻을 수 있다. 본 발명에 따라 얻어지는 카르본산에스테르 화합물은, 특히 저가의 티오우레탄 광학렌즈의 제조에 사용될 수 있으며, 그 결과 저렴하면서도 색상이 좋은 광학렌즈를 얻을 수 있다.

Disclosed are methods for making a cured sealant. The methods include depositing an uncured sealant composition on a substrate and exposing the uncured sealant composition to actinic radiation to provide a cured sealant. The uncured sealant composition includes a thiol-terminated polythioether, a polyene comprising a polyvinyl ether and/or a polyallyl compound, and a hydroxy-functional vinyl ether. Related sealant compositions are also disclosed.

Compositions comprising polyphenylsulphone and a solvent are described. The polyphenylsulphone is in solution in the solvent and the solvent comprises a 5-membered, aliphatic, cyclic or heterocyclic ketone. Methods for applying such compositions to a substrate, and articles comprising a substrate having a surface and a coating of polyphenylsulphone on the surface of the substrate are also described.

A process comprising contacting a reaction product composition comprising a poly(arylene sulfide) composition and a polar organic compound, wherein the polar organic compound comprises greater than or equal to about 1 wt.% thiophenol, with a C4-C30 α,β-unsaturated ketone, a C4-C30 α,β-unsaturated ester, a C4-C30 α,β-unsaturated amide, or any combination thereof, wherein after the contacting, the polar organic compound comprises less than about 1 wt.% thiophenol. A process comprising contacting a composition comprising a polar organic compound and greater than or equal to about 1 wt.% thiophenol with a C4-C30 α,β-unsaturated ketone, a C4-C30 α,β-unsaturated ester, a C4-C30 α,β-unsaturated amide, or any combination thereof, to form a composition comprising the polar organic compound and less than about 1 wt.% thiophenol.
