Compositions for inhibiting the attachment of microbes to surfaces are disclosed. The compositions include a carrier and an effective amount of an anti-adherent agent. The anti-adherent agents include Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose; Methylcellulose, Hydroxypropylcellulose, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Dimethicone PEG-7 Phosphate, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Bis-PEG-15 Dimethicone/IPDI Copolymer, Polyimide-1, Polyquaternium-101, Polyester-5, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein/PVP Crosspolymer, Polymethacrylamidopropyl Trimonium Chloride, Ethylene Oxide/Propylene Oxide Block Copolymer, Trideceth-9 PG-Amodimethicone (and) Trideceth-12, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane (and) Caprylyl Dimethicone Ethoxy Glucoside, Dimethicone PEG-8 succinate, Linoleamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate Dimethicone, Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone; Gum; Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-11; PEG-8 SMDI Copolymer; Polyvinyl Alcohol; VP/Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate/Polycarbamyl Polyglycol Ester; VP/Polycarbamyl Polyglycol Ester; VP/Dimethiconylacrylate/polycarbamyl Polyglycol Ester; Acrylates/Steareth-20 Methacrylate Copolymer; a mixture of Acrylates Copolymer and VP/Polycarbamyl Polyglycol Ester; and any combination thereof. Various delivery vehicles, such as wipes, may be used to deliver the composition to surfaces.

A polymer dispersant for pigments based on a graft copolymer wherein the graft copolymer has a weight average molecular weight of at least 3000 and has 10 % to 90 % by weight of a polymeric backbone and 90 % to 10 % by weight of macromonomer side chains attached to the polymeric backbone and wherein at least 20 % by weight of the polymeric backbone has attached thereto an amide group which serves as a pigment anchoring group. The polymeric backbone may also have attached thereto an additional pigment anchoring group selected from the group consisting of aromatic ester groups, aromatic amine groups, aliphatic amine groups, quaternary ammonium groups, and a combination thereof. These materials disperse a wide variety of pigments and are useful in solvent borne coating compositions where they can provide improved efficiency of pigment use, lower paint viscosity, and reduced emission of volatile organic solvent.

The invention provides gamma hydroxy primary carbamate functional compounds, film-forming compositions comprising such compounds and methods of making the same. The film-forming compositions disclosed herein comprise (I) a gamma hydroxy primary carbamate comprising one or more structures of the formula (I); wherein X and Y are either a primary carbamate group or a hydroxyl group but are not the same, m is a number from 2 to 50, R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are each at least one of H, an alkyl group, a heteroatom containing group, and mixtures thereof, and P is at least one gydrocarbon based member selected from a compound, an oligomer or polymer having more than 6 carbon atoms.

The curable coating compositions of the invention comprise a particulate component having at least one binder component (a) which is a solid at 75°F/24°C, and an additive component (b). The curable coating compositions further comprise a crosslinking component (c) reactive with the at least one binder component (a). Additive component (b) has from 12 to 72 carbon atoms, is substantially free of any heteroatoms, is not a crystalline solid at 75°F/24°C and comprises a mixture of two or more structures selected from the group consisting of aliphatic structures for additive component (b), aromatic-containing structures for additive component (b), cycloaliphatic-containing structures for additive component (b), and mixtures thereof, wherein at least one of the two or more structures is either a cycloaliphatic-containing structure or an aromatic-containing structure. The curable coating compositions are useful as powder coating compositions and powder slurry coating compositions having improved application performance properties.

The invention relates to a protective anticorrosion layer based on a polymer containing acid functional groups. At least one part of the functional groups is linked to at least one first nitrogen compound, forming a salt-like bond. The protective anticorrosion layer also contains at least one constituent of a polymerisable system, which can be polymerised by the increase of the pH value and/or water intake into the protective anticorrosion layer and/or by the action of the atmospheric oxygen. The invention also relates to an optical storage medium which is produced using the protection anticorrosion layer.

The invention provides curable coating compositions comprising an aqueous dispersion comprising a stabilizing resin (P1) and a compound (P2) comprising functional groups reactable with a crosslinking agent. Compound (P2) is dispersed into stabilizing resin (P1). The coating compositions of the invention may further comprise an optional crosslinking agent (P3) which may or may not be dispersed into stabilizing resin (P1). In a particularly preferred embodiment, both the stabilizing resin (P1) and compound (P2) will comprise functional groups which are carbamate or are convertible to carbamate.

The coating composition of the invention includes a polymer, especially an acrylic polymer, having hydroxyl and/or primary carbamate functionality; water-miscible organic solvent; low hydrogen bonding oxygenated solvent; and water that is emulsified in the organic phase. The coating composition of the invention may be a clearcoat coating composition, preferably an automotive clearcoat coating composition. The invention further provides an article, such as an automotive vehicle, having a surface coated with a coating derived from the coating composition of the invention, particularly a composite coating having a basecoat layer and clearcoat layer, and a method of producing such coating on a substrate, particularly as a basecoat/clearcoat composite coating, with the coating composition of the invention preferably being at least the clearcoat of the composite coating. The coating composition of the invention provides especially low volatile organic content, with significant reductions of 25 % or more from comparable previous coating compositions.
