Abstract:
A method for improving wear control, while maintaining or improving deposit control and fuel efficiency, in an engine lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and at least one dispersant and a mixture of viscosity modifiers, as minor components. The at least one dispersant is a polyalkenyl succinic derivative and at least one viscosity modifier is a vinyl aromatic-containing polymer or copolymer. A lubricating engine oil having a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, at least one dispersant and a mixture of viscosity modifiers, as minor components. The lubricating engine oils are useful in internal combustion engines including direct injection, gasoline and diesel engines.
Abstract:
The disclosed technology relates to ashless compounds exhibiting neutral pH and having sufficient polarity to act as a dispersant. The disclosed technology additionally relates to the use of the ashless compounds in engine lubricants as dispersants for preventing engine deposit without degrading seals or increasing (i.e. contributing to) corrosion.
Abstract:
This invention relates to methods of applying to a substrate a hydrophilic coating that becomes lubricious when activated with water or wat vapor, and to substrates having such a hydrophilic coating.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Co- and terpolymers based on alpha , beta -unsaturated compounds and alpha , beta -unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydrides are disclosed, as well as several processes for preparing the same and their use to improve the fluidity of mineral oils and mineral oil distillates. The disclosed co- and terpolymers contain: (A): -CH2-CH2- and (B), in which R and R are different and R stands for hydrogen or methyl and R for hydrogen, a COOR3 or -OOCR4 group; and 1-40 % by moles bivalent structural units (C) and optionally (D) and (E). The fusion viscosity of the co- and terpolymers at 140 DEG C (V140) equals 10 to 10,000 mPas.

Abstract:
A grafted polyolefin containing one or more of N-vinylimidazole, 4-vinylpyridine, or other ethylenically-unsaturated nitrogen-containing or oxygen-containing graftable monomers grafted to a polyolefin backbone is disclosed. The grafted polyolefin preferably has a weight average molecular weight of from about 20.000 to about 500.000, a polydispersity of less than about 10, and an ADT value of at least about 8. The grafted polyolefin can be defined as containing more than about 1.2 % by weight of grafted monomer on a polyolefin, or as containing at least about 13 moles of graftable monomers per mole of polyolefin, or as having an asphaltene dispersancy test (ADT) value of at least about 8. Also described is a lubricating oil comprising a lubricant base oil and a grafted polyolefin as described above. Also described is a method of making a dispersant viscosity index improver. N-vinyl-imidazole or other ethylenically unsaturated nitrogen-containing and/or oxygen-containing graftable monomers and a graftable polyolefin are reacted with enough of an initiator to graft the monomer to the polyolefin. The initiator and/or graftable monomer is added to the other ingredients, maintained at the reaction temperature, over a period of time. The reaction temperature is maintained at a level high enough to give acceptable reaction times. The N-vinylimidazole and the initiator each can be added at a uniform, relatively slow rate during the reaction.
