Azeotropic or azeotrope-like compositions are disclosed. The azeotropic or azeotrope-like compositions are mixtures of Z-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene with ethanol, 2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, methanol, E-1,1,1,4,4,5,5,5-octafluoro-2-pentene, 2-bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, methyl acetate, acetone, chloroform, n-hexane or 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene. Also disclosed is a process of preparing a thermoplastic or thermoset foam by using such azeotropic or azeotrope-like compositions as blowing agents. Also disclosed is a process of producing refrigeration by using such azeotropic or azeotrope-like compositions. Also disclosed is a process of using such azeotropic or azeotrope-like compositions as solvents. Also disclosed is a process of producing an aerosol product by using such azeotropic or azeotrope-like compositions. Also disclosed is a process of using such azeotropic or azeotrope-like compositions as heat transfer media. Also disclosed is a process of extinguishing or suppressing a fire by using such azeotropic or azeotrope-like compositions. Disclosed are binary azeotrope-like compositions consisting essentially of 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane (HFC-365mfc) and 1,1,1,2,3,4,4,5,5,5-decafluoropentane (HFC-43-10mee) or nonafluoromethoxybutane. The present invention further includes ternary or quaternary azeotrope-like compositions consisting essentially of 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane and 1,1,1,2,3,4,4,5,5-decafluoropentane or nonafluoromethoxybutane, and additionally trans-1,2-dichloroethylene, n-propyl bromide, acetone, methanol, ethanol or isopropanol.

The invention provides azeotrope-like compositions consisting essentially of RfOC2H5, where Rf is a branched or straight chain perfluoroalkyl group having 4 carbon atoms, and an organic solvent selected from the group consisitng of: straight chain, branched chain and cyclic alkanes having 6 to 8 carbon atoms; esters having 4 carbon atoms; ketones having 4 carbon atoms; disiloxanes having 6 carbon atoms; cyclic and acyclic ethers having 4 to 6 carbon atoms; chlorinated alkanes having 3 to 4 carbon atoms and chlorinated alkenes having 2 carbon atoms. The compositions are useful for cleaning, as solvents or carriers for coating and as heat transfer materials.

Disclosed herein are solvent compositions and methods of using the solvent compositions. The solvent composition includes at least trans-1,2-dichloroethylene (t-DCE) and 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl ether (TFE-TFPE). The solvent composition may also include an oxygenated solvent, such as an alcohol or fluorinated ether. A method of cleaning the surface of an article includes contacting the surface with the solvent composition to dissolve, disperse, or displace a contaminant on the surface, and removing the solvent composition containing the contaminant from the surface.
