The method further includes forming at least part of an upper (120, 320, 420, 5120, 520, 529) from the textile after applying the heat and/or pressure to the textile. The upper (120, 320, 420, 5120, 520, 529) includes a cavity (122, 2006, 3006, 322, 4006, 522) configured to receive a foot. The substantially smooth area (140, 5140, 540) is configured to define a reference boundary (142, 242, 342) of the upper (120, 320, 420, 5120, 520, 529). The substantially smooth area (140, 5140, 540) and the textured area (150, 151, 450, 5150, 550) are each configured to be disposed at predetermined regions of the upper (120, 320, 420, 5120, 520, 529). Furthermore, forming the textured area (150, 151, 450, 5150, 550) includes forming a plurality of projection structures (151, 251, 351, 451, 5151, 551) that project outward from the reference boundary (142, 242, 342) at varying distances.
