Abstract:
Silk performance apparel and methods of preparing the same are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, silk performance apparel includes textiles, fabrics, consumer products, and other materials that are coated with aqueous solutions of pure silk fibroin- based protein fragments. In some embodiments, coated apparel products exhibit surprisingly improved moisture management properties and increased resistance to microbial growth.
Abstract:
The invention comprises a latex formulation. The latex formulation comprises an aqueous emulsion of a natural or synthetic film- forming polymer, hydrogen peroxide, and activating agent for hydrogen peroxide decomposition. A method of making a latex foam, a method of making a latex-coated textile material, a latex foam, and a latex foam coated articles are also disclosed. Figure 1 is a disclosed embodiment of a carpet (10) with a foam layer backing (20) produced in accordance with the present invention.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to specific methods of producing cleated rubber-backed floor mats (such as dust control or rubber mats) through the utilization of the combination of a perforated coated woven fabric article and a cushioned platen liner between the article and the metal platen of an in-line dust control mat manufacturing machine. Such a procedure permits a more efficient manner of producing cleated anti-creep dust control mats than previously followed. In particular, the fabric article is in the form of a conveyor belt and is preferably constructed from Teflon3-coated woven fiberglass which will not adhere to the tacky rubber component of the target mat and can withstand the extremely high vulcanization temperatures and pressures required during the production of a dust control mat. The cushioned platen liner, which is preferably comprised of or coated with silicon, is utilized as a separator between the metal platen of the manufacturing machine, as well as cushion for the molten rubber as it is pressed through the conveyor belt perforations during vulcanization. Such a cushioned liner material substantially eliminates any problems due to the force of the metal platen against the molten rubber as it passes through the article perforations. Further, a method for utilizing the conveyor belt to produce foam rubber cleated anti-creep mats is disclosed. The cleats of these mats have a thicker skin than the rest of the mat, thereby imparting enough strength and structural integrity so that the foam rubber mats may withstand the daily rigors of use, combined with periodic launderings. The produced mat as well as the woven fabric article/cushioned platen liner combination are also encompassed within this invention.
Abstract:
Described herein is a method for producing a biofabricated material from collagen or collagen-like proteins. The collagen or collagen-like proteins are isolated from animal sources or produced by recombinant DNA techniques or by chemical synthesis. The collagen or collagen-like proteins are fibrillated, crosslinked, dehydrated and lubricated thus forming the biofabricated material having a substantially uniform network of collagen fibrils.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a composite material comprising a biofabricated material and a secondary component. The secondary component may be a porous material, such as a sheet of paper, cellulose, or fabric that has been coated or otherwise contacted with the biofabricated material. The biofabricated material comprises a uniform network of crosslinked collagen fibrils and provides strength, elasticity and an aesthetic appearance to the composite material.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for the treatment of a leather, imitation leather or fabric semimanufactured product. The process comprises the steps of: - providing the semimanufactured product to be treated; - preparing a treatment solution comprising a binder solution and particles comprising silver ions in the form of insoluble or slightly soluble salts; - applying said treatment solution to at least one surface of said semimanufactured product to be treated, Said binder solution comprises natural proteins in aqueous solution. The present invention also relates to an item produced from a leather, imitation leather or fabric semimanufactured product treated with the aforesaid.
Abstract:
A tufted fabric (10) that incorporates an odor-receiving layer (16) to remove unwanted odors from the final product in which the fabric is incorporated, particularly in floor covering articles. In an alternative embodiment, the present invention is a needle-punched fabric that incorporates an odor-receiving layer.
Abstract:
An artificial turf filament with a cross-section that includes a central area and two wing areas integral with said central area, said wing areas being arranged in a diverging orientation. Further a bundle of a plurality of artificial turf filaments is proposed, wherein the artificial turf filaments are held together by one or more wrapping filaments wrapped around said artificial turf filaments. The wrapping filaments cross each other at cross points, and are bonded, preferably releasable bonded, to one another at said cross points. Also the wrapping filaments are bonded, preferably releasable bonded, to said artificial turf filaments.
Abstract:
A method of making a mat with a textile surface and an elastomer backing is provided. The method includes mixing elastomer crumbs and a binder, depositing the crumb/binder mixture in a layer (22), placing a textile surface element (34) on the layer to form a mat assembly, and pressing the mat assembly in a press (9) while setting the binder. The elastomer crumbs are consolidated to form an elastomer backing (2) that includes voids between the elastomer crumbs, and the textile surface element is bonded to the elastomer backing to form the upper textile layer (1) of the mat.
