Abstract:
A sewing thread has at least on its outer surface at least one precursor of a product which confers to a stitched seam produced with such a thread an increased adherence to sewn materials. In addition, a sewing thread is disclosed in which the applied precursor changes into a product which is capable of increasing the outer diameter of the sewing thread, in particular in an aqueous environment. Finally, a process is disclosed for producing water-tight stitched seams. As indicated in the examples, the precursor is an expandable plastic or can contain inorganic expansion materials such as expanded pearlite, expanded mica or expanded graphite.
Abstract:
A counterband tape (20) is suitable for use in the heat setting tunnel of a carpet yarn heat setting machine. The tape (20) is constructed from polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) yarns. The counterband tape (20) may be formed as a single layer woven fabric with a twill weave construction. The tape (20) also may include a herringbone pattern.
Abstract:
A damping layer comprises a large number of yarns combined to form a textile, wherein at least some of the yarns are foamed synthetic yarns. Such a textile, which consists of a mix of foamed and non-foamed synthetic yarns, is relatively strong and light and can lead to more efficient use of the foamed material. The foamed synthetic yarn may be formed into upstanding loops which provide additional resiliency and damping.

Abstract:
A foamed fabric comprising filaments of closed-cell foam of cross-linked polymeric material is formed by integrating the filaments into a precursor textile and subsequently foaming the material at a foaming temperature at which the filaments expand. The foamed fabric can be used for protective garments, pads, mats and the like.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a sewing thread which is particularly suitable for producing chain stitches, preferably for sewing on buttons. The sewing thread proposed is characterized in that it has on its outer surface at least one precursor material for a product which gives, to a stitch produced with such a thread, increased adherence to the material being sewn or increased adherence between individual loops in the stitch, so that chain stitches produced with sewing thread of this kind are virtually impossible to tear open. The sewing thread proposed is particularly suitable for sewing buttons on to textile fabrics. Low-molecular oligomers, for instance, may be used as precursor materials for treatment of the sewing thread, polymerization of these oligomers being completed to give full polymerization.
