The novel sewing machine comprises one or more containers (15) for one or more radiation curable polymer precursors, one or more injector (15-20, 28) devices for injecting the precursor(s) at selected targets, one or more sources (16) of curing radiation, dosing means for determining the volume of the precursor charge injected at each injection, and means (21) for synchronically activating the injector device and the radiation source. The polymer precursor(s) are injected in the fluid state at the selected target(s) and are then cured by polymerization or cross-linking to acquire a solid state. The novel sewing machine can also include one or more components of prior art sewing machines for the purpose of carrying out any desired operation that said components can carry out.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a machine for production of a non-unravelling seam (12) with at least one looped and interlaced seam thread with stitching holes in or through at least one thickness of the material of an object, called the sewed object (3). The stitching (12) is produced using at least one thread having a thermoplastic material at least on the outside thereof. An infrared laser beam (17, 18) is applied locally to the stitching (12), on the outside of the sewed object (3), suitable for local softening of the thermoplastic material located on the outside of at least one thread, extending along the outside of the sewed object (3) and adjacent to at least one other thread. A jet of air permits the mixing of the softened fibres and at least one pressing body (6) is then applied to the softened and mixed thermoplastic material of at least one thread such as to locally solidify adjacent threads together.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for joining together two or more fabric components without thread, the components including at least one ultrasonically bondable component. The apparatus (50) comprises an ultrasonic horn (68) operable to emit ultrasonic energy through a fabric-engaging end face thereof, and a rotatable anvil support (74) having an outer peripheral surface on which one or a plurality of anvil structures (82) are formed. The anvil support (74) and the horn (68) are arranged so as to define a nip between the respective fabric-engaging surfaces thereof for receiving the components to be joined. The anvil support (74) rotates about an axis thereof as the components pass through the nip such that the outer peripheral surface of the anvil support (74) defining the anvil structures (82) is stationary relative to the components passing through the nip. The horn (68) emits ultrasonic energy and the anvil structures (82) focus the ultrasonic energy on one or more regions of the at least one ultrasonically bondable component contacted by the anvil structure(s) (82) so as to locally heat and bond the one or more regions.

Abstract: Sewing method, comprising bonding sewing threads (52) to themselves or to one another, or bonding fabric layers (50, 51) together, by using an adhesive (57) having an elasticity which is measured by an elongation at break of at least 10-20 %, and preferably between 50 and 150 %. A chain-stitch is formed and locked, at the points of interlocking of successive loops of its single or double threads, with a bonding adhesive, whereby to form a pseudo lock-stitch. The bonding adhesive is chosen from among polymeric adhesives that can be formed by curing a precursor by means of U.V. light, e.g. acrylate-based photo-polymers. The bonding adhesive is applied by injecting a polymerizable precursor at the point where the adhesive bond is to be produced and then polymerizing the same.
