The invention relates to a steam generator (D1, D2) having a first passage, which is formed by one or more pipes (R1, R2) and through which a medium can be conducted in liquid and/or vapour form, and having a second passage (F1, F2), through which a hot gas can be conducted along the outer side of each of the pipes (R1, R2) which form the first passage. Each of the pipes (R1, R2), which form the first passage, of the steam generator (D1, D2) is surrounded by a pressure-resistant casing (M1, M2) which has a heat-insulating coating (W1, W2) on the inner side thereof and through the interior space of which the second passage (F1, F2) runs.

The invention relates to a heat exchanger to be used in particular in a waste incineration plant, wherein flue gasses are conducted along pipes through which steam is passed for the production of heated steam. The heat exchanger is comprised of shield pipes (8) and superheater pipes (15) provided immediately behind these. These shield pipes are embodied with a diameter different to that of the pipes which, viewed in the direction of slow, lie behind these. In some cases it is preferred to choose a larger diameter in order to create a lee for the pipes lying behind. In other cases on the other hand, a smaller diameter is possibly more effective because this may reduce the influence of the Von Karman vortices.

A one-piece tube for use as a watertube within a watertube boiler or heat exchanger has a free end section that is formed to have an integral, outward-extending circumferential ring, or flange, a spaced distance from an adjacent end face of the tube. A boiler is provided that has an elongate header and a plurality of separate watertubes each having an intermediate section and opposite end sections. An end section of each watertube is connected to the header. The intermediate section of each watertube has a substantially constant outer diameter along its full length and is closely spaced to adjacent watertubes within the combustion chamber. At least one of the end sections of each watertube has a transition that reduces the diameter of the watertube as it extends from the intermediate section to an outwardly-extending circumferential flange. This arrangement permits close spacing of the connection sites of the watertubes to the header and permits the connection sites to be provided in a linear array.

Abstract:
A compact boiler (100) suited for portable usage in generating hot water and/or steam is described. The boiler (100) incorporates just one helical coil (106) formed from a spirally corrugated metal pipe of 1 mm thick, 20 mm diameter stainless steel wound into a single helix with the peaks of the corrugations of adjacent turns just touching one another. The spirally corrugated pipe resembles a screw having four starts. A series of concentric baffles (108, 109, 110) ensure that hot gases from a burner will pass over or between the pipe of the helix (106) several times, thereby improving the transfer of heat to the water contained within the pipe.
