Abstract:
A trapped vortex combustor for use in a gas turbine engine includes an outer vortex chamber wall and a dome attached to, or formed integrally with, the outer vortex chamber wall. The dome, the outer vortex chamber wall, or both define at least in part an outer trapped vortex chamber and a channel. The channel extends along the circumferential direction at a forward end of the outer vortex chamber wall, the channel configured to receive an airflow through or around the outer vortex chamber wall, the dome, or both and provide such airflow as a continuous annular airflow to the inner surface of the outer vortex chamber wall. The dome further defines a fuel nozzle opening, with all openings in the dome outward of the fuel nozzle opening along the radial direction, excepting any effusion cooling holes having a diameter less than about 0.035 inches, being in airflow communication with the channel.
Abstract:
A deflector for a gas turbine engine combustor. The combustor includes a liner defining a combustion zone and a mixer assembly configured to supply the combustion zone with a predetermined mixture of fuel and air. The deflector includes a deflector body configured to couple to the liner. The deflector body includes a first surface configured to reflect thermal radiation to a predetermined focal area, and an aperture extending through the deflector body and configured to receive the mixer assembly therethrough.

Abstract:
A combustor wall is provided for a turbine engine. The combustor wall includes a shell and a heat shield that is attached to the shell. The heat shield includes a rail and a cooling element connected to the rail in a cavity. The cavity extends in a vertical direction between the shell and the heat shield. The cavity fluidly couples a plurality of apertures in the shell with a plurality of apertures in the heat shield.
Abstract:
A combustor for a turbine engine includes an inner liner panel with a multiple of inner dilution passages. The multiple of dilution passages includes a repeating pattern of a first major inner air passage, a minor inner air passage, and a second major inner air passage. A combustor for a turbine engine includes an outer liner panel with a multiple of outer dilution passages. The multiple of outer dilution passages includes a repeating pattern of a first major outer air passage, a first minor outer air passage, a second major outer air passage, and a second minor outer air passage.
Abstract:
A combustor component defining a dilution hole configuration for a combustor wall assembly of a gas turbine engine has first and second dilution holes that communicate radially with one-another and with respect to respective centerlines of each dilution hole. In operation, each dilution hole forms a respective jet stream along respective centerlines for flowing cooling air into a combustion chamber.
Abstract:
An assembly is provided for a turbine engine. This turbine engine assembly includes a combustor wall. The combustor wall includes a shell, a heat shield and an annular body. The body extends laterally between an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface defines an igniter aperture in the combustor wall. The outer surface is vertically between the heat shield and the shell. The shell defines a first cooling aperture through which air is directed to impinge against the outer surface.
Abstract:
A turbine engine includes a compressor section, a combustor in fluid communication with the compressor section, and a turbine section in fluid communication with the combustor section. The combustor includes a combustor region defined by at least one bulkhead panel and at least one heat shielding panel inside the combustor region. The at least one heat shielding panel is connected to the bulkhead panel via at least one cooled fastener.
Abstract:
A panel for a combustor of a gas turbine engine includes a cold side defining at least one convex portion and at least one concave portion. The concave portion is in communication with a passage. A method of operating a combustor section of a gas turbine engine includes: directing an impingement flow toward a multiple of peaks on a cold side of a panel; directing the impingement flow from the multiple of peaks toward a multiple of troughs with a multiple of entrances on the cold side of the panel; and directing the impingement flow through the multiple of entrances and a respective multiple of effusion passages through the panel.
