Abstract:
A force measurement apparatus includes a housing having a track with a curved guide wall having a convex shape configured to guide a portion of a guide wire. A sensor is proximate the first guide wall in a first position, the sensor senses movement of a portion of the guide wire moving from a first position proximate the curved guide wall to a second position distal the first guide wall in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the guide wire.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for detecting crack formation in a hoisting member, comprising the steps of measuring a stress under load at two points of the hoisting member, comparing the measured stresses and generating a warning signal when the measured stresses differ too much from each other. The invention also relates to a device for detecting crack formation in a hoisting member, comprising means arranged at two points of the hoisting member for measuring a stress under load, means connected to the measuring means for comparing the measured stresses, and means connected to the comparing means for generating a warning signal when the measured stresses differ too much from each other. Finally, the invention relates to a hoisting frame, comprising a number of hoisting members which are mounted thereon close to its corners, and crack detection devices connected thereto.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a non-contact drive belt tension monitoring apparatus for measuring drive belt tension on a drive belt vibrating in response to a stimulus. A coherent light source, associated with the drive belt, generates coherent light which is reflected by a determined region of the drive as reflected coherent light. A light receiver receives reflected coherent light containing vibration information. Attached circuitry processes the output of the light receiver to generate a drive belt tension measurement.
Abstract:
System for monitoring high-tension cables (1) in air stretches as well as a use of the same. The system comprises at least one optic fibre (3) fastened to the high-tension cable (1), said optic fibre comprising at least one Bragg grating (4) with known reflection characteristics, a light source (6) for emitting light within a known range of wavelengths into the optic fibre, and measuring devices (7) for detection of light reflected from the Bragg gratings (4) in the fibre (3) and for recognizing light reflected from each Bragg grating (4) based on their known reflection characteristics.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for non-contact and non-invasive characterization of a moving thin sheet and in particular of a paper web on a production line. The method uses a laser for the generation of sonic and ultrasonic waves in the thin sheet and a speckle insensitive interferometric device for the detection of these waves. The generation is performed in conditions to avoid damage impeding further use of the sheet. When the generation and detection spots overlap, the method provides a measurement of the compression modulus. When the generation and detection spots are separated by a known distance and plate waves (Lamb waves) are generated and detected, the method provides a measurement of the in-plane modulus and of the tension applied to the sheet. By detecting waves propagating in various directions, either by rotating the detection sensor head or multiplexing the signals provided by several detection or generation locations, the anisotropy of the in-plane modulus is determined.
Abstract:
A belt monitoring apparatus (30) for monitoring a belt in a pulley system comprising at least two pulleys around which the belt is fitted. The belt monitoring apparatus (30) comprises a first sensing device (32) including a transmitter (42) configured to transmit a wireless signal and a receiver (44) configured to receive the wireless signal reflected, in use, by a span of the belt, and to produce a corresponding output signal. The apparatus (30) further includes processing means (36) configured to detect in the output signal a signal component caused by transverse vibration of the span and to determine the frequency of the transverse vibration from the span vibration signal component.
Abstract:
A strain transducer strand (10) is provided comprising an elongatable central core (12) around which are helically wound one or more plastic tubes (14) each of which contains an optical fibre (16). Each tube (14) is overfilled with the optical fibre (16), such that the fibre (16) is longer than the tube (14). As the transducer strand (10) experiences strain, the core (12), plastic tubes (14), and optical fibres (16) elongate, with the helical winding acting as gearing to produce a reduced elongation in the fibres (16) proportional to the elongation of the transducer strand (10). The degree of elongation may be detected by monitoring the optical properties of light transmitted along the fibres (16). The transducer strand is particularly intended for incorporation into elongate load bearing members, such as ropes.
