Abstract:
An adaptive balance system is described for adaptively balancing a mass rotating about an axis of rotation. The system comprises a plurality of reservoirs for containing fluid and arranged around a centre substantially coincident with the axis rotation in use. A conduit arrangement interconnects fluid reservoirs to allow the flow of fluid therebetween. A pump arrangement is connected by the conduit arrangement between fluid reservoirs for pumping the fluid from each fluid reservoir to another fluid reservoir through the conduit arrangement.

Abstract:
A dynamic balancing wheel cover assembly and method of making the same for attachment to a wheel comprised of corrosion resistant wheel cover, mounting brackets and a self-balancing circular race. The wheel cover is further comprised of an aesthetically pleasing material, chromed steel or plastic, stainless steel or aluminum, or painted steel, plastic or aluminum with apertures allowing access to the vehicle hub and lug bolt/nuts. The mounting brackets are further compromised of a material corrosion resistant and of sufficient strength to attach both the wheel cover and the self-balancing circular race to the vehicle wheel, further utilizing the vehicle lug bolt/nuts as fasteners. The self-balancing circular race is further comprised of synthetic dampening fluids; hardened spherical media and roll formed aluminum tubing.
Abstract:
A method for balancing automobile wheel assemblies comprising pneumatic tyres, said method comprising introducing a viscous balancing composition into the tyre; mounting the wheel on a rotatable assembly; pressing a rotatable drum and the tread surface of the wheel in the rotatable assembly against one another with a static force F, the axes of rotation of the drum and the wheel assembly being essentially parallel; and driving the drum and/or the wheel assembly to rotation for a time period T; the force F and the time T being sufficient to cause the balancing composition to be distributed inside the tyre, thereby balancing the wheel assembly. The method may preferably be carried out on an apparatus comprising a rotatable assembly on which a wheel assembly comprising a rim and a pneumatic tyre may be mounted; a rotatably mounted drum having an axis of rotation essentially parallel to that of the rotatable wheel assembly, the axes drum and/or the rotatable wheel assembly being capable of being moved in a direction towards and away from one another; driving means for rotating the rotatable wheel assembly and/or the drum; spring means and dampening means for providing static force and dampening in a direction between the axes of rotation of the drum and the rotatable wheel assembly, respectively, and essentially at right angles to said axes; and spring means and/or dampening means mounted between the axis of rotation of the rotatable wheel assembly and the ground and/or between the axis of rotation of the drum and the ground.

Abstract:
A method of adaptively balancing a rotating mass comprises using a mass arranged in at least one circumferential region about the axis of rotation. Vibrations generated by the rotating mass are detected and used to generate control signals. The control signals are used to redistribute the mass circumferentially using actuator means to reduce the detected vibrations.
