Images produced by electrophotography are often subjected to harsh conditions, such as high temperature and high relative humidity conditions. Prints when subjected to face-to-face stacking under these conditions tend to stick and are difficult to separate without damage. Ethylene-bis-stearamide is incorporated in a protective toner formulation employing a toner binder having a higher glass transition temperature than that of the conventional CYMK colored image toners employed to provide a protective layer in fused images. Further, ethylene-bis-stearamide does not interfere with typical oil release additives used in fuser rollers. By combining ethylene-bis-stearamide with polyalkane waxes having a weight average molecular weight of equal to or greater than 2000 and a poly dispersity of less than 2.0, addition protection can be realized.

Disclosed are methods and apparatus for electrographic development which utilize a rotating magnetic core, a toner shell disposed around the rotating magnetic core, and developer compositions disposed on the toner shell which include a hard magnetic material, such as a strontium ferrite. The shell in embodiments has an outer surface with a surface roughness Ra of less than 32 microinches. The methods and apparatus do not require special manufacturing steps to place surface roughness or irregularities on the shell, and, thus, can provide the same or better image quality with relatively less complex manufacturing steps and at reduced cost.

A toner for printing documents that are difficult to chemically or physically forge and that are readily easy to visually verify and methods of using and forming the toner are disclosed. The toner includes a colorant for printing an image on a surface of a document, a fluorescent pigment that under normal lighting is masked by the colorant but creates a visible image on the first surface of the a substrate when irradiated by black or ultra-violet light, and a dye for forming a latent version of the image underneath a surface of a substrate. An image formed using the toner of the invention is readily verified by comparing the colorant-formed image and the dye-formed image. In addition, if a solvent is used in an attempt to alter the printed image on the substrate, the dye migrates or diffuses to indicate tampering with the document.

The invention provides a process for the manufacture of a toner which comprises the steps of : a) providing a latex dispersion containing primary- resin particles and surfactant; b) providing a colorant dispersion containing primary colorant particles and surfactant; c) optionally providing a wax dispersion containing primary wax particles and surfactant; d) providing at least one carboxy functional compound of Formula (1) , which may be in acid, salt and/or complex form wherein R is a carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical which may be optionally substituted and Z is a bond or linker group, on condition that the amount of carboxy functional compound of Formula (1) provided in acid and/or salt is at least 1,5% by weight; d) mixing the latex dispersion, colorant dispersion, optional way dispersion and said carboxy functional compound; and e) causing the particles in the mixture to associate. The process advantageously may produce a toner of small size and narrow particle size distribution.

In particular, the present invention relates to a polymerized toner containing pigments, pigment stabilizers, charge control agents and binder resin monomers, and a method to prepare the polymerized toner by suspension polymerization of pigments, pigment stabilizers, charge control agents and binder resin monomers, wherein the pigment stabilizer is a styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer having the weight-average molecular weight of 2,000 to 200,000, and the charge control agent is a copolymer with sulfonate group having the weight-average molecular weight of 2,000 to 200,000.
