Certain configurations of systems which include a removable oral device are described. In some configurations, the system comprises a removable oral device which is coupled in some manner to a separate external component. The removable oral device can be used in combination with various additional external devices and components in weight control, athletic performance, and other applications.

A system and method to provide patient education prior to surgery or post-surgery is disclosed. The patient education can be customized based on different factors and provided in a progressive sequence. Patients may be required to complete patient educational lessons and also provide feedback to assess how they are doing. Due to a variety of patient circumstances and the potential for abrupt changes in patient health status prior to, during, or following a health procedure, it is necessary for patient education to adapt to a patient's changing needs. The disclosure describes a technique to assign patient education materials in an adaptive and responsive manner.

Disclosed is a device for reminding a user to drink from a container. In one embodiment, the device may include a cover attachable to a container, at least one signal producing unit located in the cover, a tap button located on the exterior of the cover and a controller. The controller is configured to initiate a timeout period when the tap button is tapped and activate the signal producing unit if the tap button is not tapped before the lapse of the timeout period.

The present teaching relates to matching users with items. In one example, information related to one or more users is obtained from one or more sources including an online source. The information is transformed into one or more psychological needs of each user. One or more items are obtained. Each item is associated with abilities to satisfy one or more psychological needs. The one or more users are matched with the one or more items based on the users' psychological needs and the items' abilities to satisfy psychological needs to generate a matching result. The matching result is provided.

Systems, apparatus, and methods related to modeling, monitoring, and/or managing metabolism of a subject include measuring a respiratory quotient (RQ) level in a subject and/or optimizing and executing a nonlinear feedback model to model energy substrate utilization in the subject based on at least one of a macronutrient composition and caloric value of food consumed by the subject, an intensity and duration of activity by the subject, a rate and maximum capacity of glycogen storage in the subject, a rate and maximum capacity of de novo lipogenesis in the subject, a quality and duration of sleep by the subject, and/or an RQ level in the subject.

In one aspect, a method for guiding one or more users through steps of a recipe is described. A recipe is obtained. One or more users are identified. A cooking proficiency of each of the users is determined. A sequence of cooking steps is determined based on the recipe and the cooking proficiency of the users. The sequence is transmitted to one or more appliances. Various implementations involve appliances, devices, systems and software that relate to the above method.

Methods and systems are disclosed for managing diabetes. Some embodiments can prompt a patient to take a blood glucose management action via a diabetes management application on the patient's mobile device. Some embodiments can collect context-related information concerning a patient's blood glucose measurement via the patient's mobile device. Some embodiments can enable categorization of a plurality of patients into diabetes risk categories for caregivers and others.

Eyewear, according to various embodiments, comprises at least one biometric sensor that is adapted for taking a biometric reading from the wearer when the wearer is operatively wearing the eyewear and for transmitting the results of the biometric reading to one or more computer processors for use in determining whether the wearer is a particular individual. The one or more processors may be embodied within the eyewear, and the eyewear may also include a wireless communications device for transmitting a signal (e.g., to a remote computing device) that confirms the identity of the wearer as the particular individual. A remote computing device, or other device, or individual, may then, based at least in part on receiving the signal, grant wearer access to a computer program, computing system, and/or a particular physical space.

Systems, methods, and articles to provide customized cooking instructions to users via a communications device. The user is provided with audio/visual prompts depicting one or more ending characteristics of a food product, such as texture or doneness. The user provides a selection of the one or more ending characteristics according to the user's preferences. A processor-based device determines one or more output food preparation parameters based on the user's selection of the one or more ending characteristics for the food product. The one or more determined output food preparation parameters are provided to a communication device of the user so that the user may cook the food product according to the output food preparation parameters.
