摘要:
In an example, an apparatus to tandem pump a fiber laser or fiber amplifier may include a combiner; a power amplifier or a power oscillator, or a combination thereof, coupled to an output of the combiner; a seed laser to output light to the power amplifier or the power oscillator, or the combination thereof, via the combiner; and a tandem pump to generate light of a pump source signal, wherein the light of the pump source signal is output to the combiner to cladding pump the power amplifier or the power oscillator, or the combination thereof. Other embodiments may be disclosed and/or claimed.
摘要:
A voltage-controllable output coupler for a laser, comprising: a liquid crystal cell that provides a change in birefringence in response to an applied voltage; and a polariser oriented with respect to the liquid crystal cell to collectively form a variable reflectance mirror for the laser; wherein output coupling of the laser is controllable by applying voltage to the liquid crystal cell for a switching interval to switch the variable reflectance mirror from high reflectance to low reflectance, and vice versa, thus actively Q-switching or cavity dumping the laser.

Optical fibers are provided for modal discrimination which include a central core and a cladding disposed about the central core. The central core has a non-circular and non- elliptical cross-section, and it is rotated about a central axis of the optical fiber along the length of the optical fiber at a selected pitch resulting in the capability of a fundamental mode beam output for large core sizes. An optical system includes a seed optical source configured to provide a seed beam and an optical amplifier configured to receive and amplify the seed beam. The optical amplifier also includes an active optical fiber having a large mode area non-circular and non-elliptical core rotated about a central axis of said active optical fiber to provide modal discrimination and fundamental mode output.
摘要:
A high power single mode ("SM") laser system includes an amplifier configured with a monolithic fiber to rod fiber waveguide which is structured with a multimode ("MM") core and at least one cladding surrounding the core. The MM core is configured with a small diameter uniform input region receiving and guiding a SM signal light, a mode-transforming frustoconica! core region expanding outwards from the input region and a relatively large diameter uniform output position. The high power laser system is further structured with a MM pump light delivery fiber having a numerical aperture NA 2 , which is at most equal to that one of the output core portion. The amplifier and pump light output fiber traverse an unconfined deli very cable and terminate upstream from a mirror which is configured to focus the incident pump light into the core of the amplifier in a counter-propagating direction. The mirror is further structured with an opening aligned with the optical axis of the amplifier and configured to provide a lossless passage of amplified signal light in a propagating direction.
