Techniques for subscription for communication attributes are described. According to various embodiments, communication attributes represent attributes pertaining to communication sessions between different endpoints. According to various embodiments, a client network involved in a communication system can subscribe to receive various communication attributes for various subnetworks ("subnets") of the client network. According to one or more embodiments, various actions can be performed based on communication attributes.

For allowing a flexible and fine-grained SFC steering over a transport network without adaptation of said network a method for operating a network, especially an IP network, is claimed, wherein at least one service function chain, SFC, comprising several service functions, SFs, is implemented for providing traffic steering, wherein traffic steering information related to the at least one SFC is encoded. The method is characterized in that redundant information in an addressing scheme of network hosts is used for addressing the SFs. Further, an according network is claimed, preferably for carrying out the above mentioned method.

La présente invention concerne le domaine des passerelles d'accès internet, des décodeurs de services vidéo associés ainsi que les procédés de diffusion de contenu vidéo par un opérateur au travers d'une telle passerelle à destination d'un tel décodeur. L'invention décrit l'utilisation d'une adresse MAC virtuelle dédiée à la VOD sur le décodeur. Cette adresse est ensuite reconnue par la passerelle. La passerelle implémente un circuit direct dirigeant directement le trafic lié à cette adresse virtuelle entre l'interface d'accès au réseau de communication et le port physique de la passerelle sur lequel est connecté le décodeur. Avantageusement, le circuit est configuré dynamiquement par interception de la requête DHCP utilisée pour configurer cette adresse virtuelle.

A partitioned network has several subdomains (1, 2, 3,) each having a respective access server (10, 20, 30) and each serving a plurality of end users (11, 12; 21, 22; 31, 32). Each access server (10, 20, 30) is connected to a respective content cache (13, 23) or a set of such caches (130, 131, 132), which stores content and downloads it to end users on request. An alternative routing (19, 29) may be available between an access server (10) and a content cache (23) other than its associated cache (13), for use in exceptional circumstances. All the content caches (13, 23), are given the same IP address, "W.X.Y.Z". Each access server (10, 20, 30) operates exclusively in a geographic sub-domain, and recognises the IP address W.X.Y.Z as relating uniquely to its respective associated content cache 13, (23, 23) This means that the configuration of each access server (10, 20, 30) to handle content caching/distribution/streaming can be the same regardless of its location in the network. Any end user (10) can therefore obtain content from the cache (13) which is topologically closest, using the common IP address W.X.Y.Z. No address translation or mapping is required to route requests to the correct local content server. If the access server (10) is unable to connect to the associated content server (13), it is configured to forward traffic to another content cache (23), by tunnelling the request to an access server (20) associated with that second cache. The second access server (20) recognises the address W.X.Y.Z as being that of its own associated content server (23), rather than the content server (13) associated with the first access server (10), and forwards the request accordingly. The content can then be returned to the address of the requesting user.

A method includes receiving a request for a node identifier, the request including a first information element. In response, the method further includes generating a unique node identifier that includes a plurality of second information elements and the first information element; and responding to the request with the generated unique node identifier. Also disclosed are apparatus for performing the method, as well as a computer program embodied on a computer-readable media for executing the method.
