Abstract:
A set-top box or other receiving device may detect such channels that the EPG cursor visits frequently, visits for relatively long periods of time or that are frequently displayed on the screen in the electronic program guide (EPG), or otherwise frequently visited or viewed. The system determines that such channels are those that the user is likely to return to when browsing the EPG in the future and then adapts the EPG to present such channels on top of the EPG together with each other separately from the other full list of channels presented in the. This may be performed each time the EPG is opened. A customized EPG having the particular group of channels presented according a specific identified user's previous channel browsing activity may also be generated.
Abstract:
An application control system and method for digital broadcasting are disclosed. The application control system which stores a short cut key of an application provided from a content data providing server and displays the stored short cut key includes: a user interface module for displaying the provided application on a screen of a receiver terminal; a short cut management module for storing an inputted key and a locator in order to store the short cut key of the application displayed by the user interface module; and an application control module for storing keys and locators which a user wants to store in a storage unit of the short cut management module and analyzing the stored key and locators to control the user interface module to display an application desired by a user.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of managing a channel list (1) including channels available for navigation/selection by a user through a remote control having a plurality of color buttons. The method of the present invention comprises: a step (S9) of allocating, upon an uninterrupted actuation of a preferred color button of the remote control for a first predetermined duration, a preferred channel in the channel list (1) into a respective one of a plurality of categories (2) in the channel list (1), wherein the plurality of categories (2) being respectively associated with the plurality of color buttons; and a step of exclusively activating (S10), upon an uninterrupted actuation of a preferred color button for a second predetermined duration, the channels of a respective category (2) in the channel list (1) so as to permit a user to navigate/select exclusively the channels in said respective category (2) in the channel list (1) while skipping over the channels which have not been allocated to said respective category (2).
Abstract:
A method and system for browsing videos that are organized as channels. A browsing interface allows a user to browse videos with primarily a simple directional controller. The up and down inputs of the directional controller control navigation between levels of the interface such as search, playback control, full screen playback, video browsing and channel browsing. The left and right inputs of the directional controller control various options at the active level of the user interface and the select input allows the user to select an option. The user can browse various channels and videos within a channel to select media for playback. Videos in a channel play continuously to minimize input from the directional controller.
Abstract:
Electronic program guide (EPG) systems and methods are operable to incorporate image information into an EPG generated at a media device. An exemplary embodiment receives an image associated with a program, processes the received image into a rich media EPG image, receives program presentation schedule information that specifies a presentation schedule of a plurality of programs, wherein the program is one of the plurality of programs scheduled for presentation, associates an identifier with the rich media EPG image and the program, and generates a rich media EPG schedule based upon the received program presentation schedule information and the identifier.
Abstract:
A system (100, 200, 300, 22) and method (400) for controlling a media generation system where a media event may be selected via a stateless software module, the system receiving a media event protocol file corresponding to the selected media event (306, 402). The media generation system generates the media event based on the received media event protocol file (100, 200, 310, 320, 430).

Abstract:
An image display apparatus and an image display method are provided. The image display apparatus includes a display configured to display an item list including items, and a sensor configured to sense a first input for zooming out on the item list, and sense a second input for zooming in on the item list. The image display apparatus further includes a controller configured to control the display to display the items with a decrease in size in response to the sensor sensing the first input, and display the items with an increase in size in response to the sensor sensing the second input.
Abstract:
A controlling device is automatically configured to issue a communication directly to a first controllable appliance to control a functional operation of the first controllable appliance in the event that the first controllable appliance is determined to be unresponsive to a command communication transmitted to the first controllable appliance via a digital communications link or to issue a communication to a second controllable appliance to control the functional operation of the first controllable appliance via a digital communications link in the event that first controllable appliance is determined to be responsive to a command communication transmitted to the first controllable appliance via a digital communications link.
Abstract:
A television receiver includes a graphics generator (800) for generating for display a stylized image (105; 205; 305) of the environment in which the user's physical television receiver is situated. The image includes graphical representations of functions which are available for selection and control by a user, and at least one (135) of which functions affect the display of the video image. In one embodiment of the invention, a video inset-image from a PIP unit is completely surrounded by a graphics image. The PIP image is aligned with the screen (111; 211) of a graphically displayed television receiver (110; 210) to portray an image of a television displaying a received television program. Alternatively, an animated graphics presentation is displayed in the screen area (311) of the graphically-displayed television receiver to simulate live video. In another embodiment, a stylized display of the user's room is altered in response to user input regarding the user's consumer electronics equipment, and submenu operational choices are enabled or disabled accordingly.
