Heater assemblies comprising a cylindrical body with a surface and a central axis including a plurality of heating elements are described. The plurality of heating elements is axially spaced on the surface of the cylindrical body. Each of the heating elements forms an axially spaced heating zone. Each heating element has a spiral shape with an inner end and an outer end defining a length of the heating element. Each coil of the spiral shape is spaced from an adjacent coil by a distance sufficient to prevent arcing between adjacent coils.

An induction heating device, comprising an open planar magnetic core with at least one center leg and one or more layers of flat coils that are part of a printed circuit board, and which are positioned in a wound-like manner around the center leg of said core, thereby resulting in a low-profile PCB coil. The induction heating device may also include a planar transformer, combined with two or more low-profile PCB coils to realize an induction heating appliance.

A variable width transverse flux electric inductor has a fixed powered coil section and associated box-like moveable passive coil sections that electromagnetically couple with magnetic flux generated by current flowing through the fixed powered section. The passive coil sections can be transversely moved across the workpiece to accommodate induction heating of workpieces having different widths or track movement of the workpiece. Alternatively the fixed powered coil section and associated moveable coil sections may be connected to each other through flexible connections, sliding contacts or other means, such as clamps, so that an electrical connection can be maintained between both in any relative position.

A single shot inductor is provided to induction heat treat closely spaced multiple eccentric cylindrical components arranged along the longitudinal axis of a workpiece. The single shot inductor has multiple planar arcuate single turn coil sections separated from each other by an axial coil section so that each of the multiple planar arcuate single turn coil sections sequentially heat treats the closely spaced multiple eccentric cylindrical components inserted within the single shot inductor.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung (1) zum Härten einer mit rippen- oder zahnartigen Elementen (2) versehenen Oberfläche (3) an einem Bauelement (4) für ein Lenksystem, insbesondere zum Härten von Verzahnungen (5) von Zahnstangen (6), mit einer Induktionsspule (7) in deren Wirkungsbereich die zu härtende Oberfläche (3) bringbar ist. Ferner betrifft die Erfindung eine Zahnstange (6), deren Verzahnung (5) mit einer Vorrichtung (1 ) gehärtet ist. Um eine Vorrichtung zum Härten einer mit rippen- oder zahnartigen Elementen versehenen Oberfläche an einem Bauelement für ein Lenksystem anzugeben, die in der Lage ist, eine gleichmäßige Härtung über die gesamten Oberfläche des Bauelementes zu bewirken und deren Einsatz keine unvorteilhaften Folgen für eine Gefügestruktur des Bauelements hat, ist vorgesehen, dass die Induktionsspule (7) so geformt ist, dass durch die Induktionsspule (7) ein elektrischer Strom induziert ist, der zumindest teilweise orthogonal zu den rippen- oder zahnartigen Elementen (2) gerichtet ist.
