Abstract:
A device including a complex of fibrous and/or textile and/or grid-like elements (5) of which at least one contains inserted dry particles of materials containing molecules that are physically and chemically stable at room temperature but generate an endothermic reaction when there is a rise in temperature. The device is useful for protecting cable troughs.
Abstract:
A method of reducing the amount of cooling energy required to heat and cool a building is provided. The method includes disposing a porous insulating material in the exterior walls and substantially covering the ceiling in the attic space of the building to a substantial depth. The porous insulating material includes a desiccant. The method further includes permitting the desiccant - bearing porous insulating material to adsorb water moisture from the attic space and then permitting the adsorbed water moisture to desorb from the desiccant - bearing porous insulating material into the enclosed room of the building, resulting in a reduction in the amount of energy required to heat and cool the building.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a fibrous fabric comprising at least one layer comprising a mixture of shaped fibers having two or more different cross sections. The variety of cross sections include solid round fibers, hollow round fibers, multi-lobal solid fibers, hollow multi-lobal fibers, crescent shaped fibers, square shaped fibers, crescent shaped fibers, and any combination thereof.
Abstract:
A method of radiochemical analysis comprises the steps of providing a solid phase extraction sheet material comprising ion-specific sorptive or reactive particles and a porous matrix as carrier for the particles, and providing a fluid including an ion-containing radiochemical analyte comprising the specific ion, contacting the sheet material with the fluid for a time sufficient for the particles to selectively extract the analyte from the fluid, and analyzing the sheet material in a direct mode for quantitative or qualitative data relating to the radiochemical analyte. Solid phase extraction sheet materials and methods for their preparation are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Passive fire protection comprises at least one layer of a rubber compound containing a frit composition which when exposed to heat or flame will char and fuse the ceramic to form a layer within the char, together with one or more layers of ceramic fibre material.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
A carbon fiber felt constituted of a carbon fiber aggregate and a binder for joining the fibers of the aggregate is improved in fire resistance by incorporating a fireproofing agent into the felt. The fireproofing agent is composed of one or more members selected from among phosphorus compounds, boron compounds, silicone compounds, and so on. The fireproofing agent is used in an amount of about 1 to 30 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of carbon fibers. The carbon fiber felts thus obtained and heat insulators made by using the same are excellent in fire resistance.
Abstract:
A nonwoven (10) having a low tensile strength and high elongation in the first direction (typically the CD (12)) and high tensile strength and low elongation in the second direction (typically the MD (14)). The nonwoven (10) has a plurality of bonding points (20) defining a total bonding area along the second direction (14) greater than along the first direction (12). Accordingly, the nonwoven has unbonded fiber portions (30) and bonded fiber portions (32), with a bonded portion/unbonded portion ratio greater along the second direction (14) than along the first direction (12). The bonding points (20) are preferably either circular (22) or oval (24) in plan.
