Abstract:
This invention relates to separators for batteries and other electrochemical cells, especially lithium-ion batteries, having a shutdown mechanism. The separator comprises a nonwoven nanoweb comprising a coating composed of a plurality of thermoplastic particles having particle size larger than the mean flow pore size of the nanoweb. The coating flows at a desired temperature, and restricts the ion flow path, resulting in a substantial decrease in ionic conductivity of the separator at the desired shutdown temperature, while leaving the separator intact.
Abstract:
A composite material, the composite material comprising at least one prepreg, said prepreg comprising at least one polymeric resin and at least one fibrous reinforcement; and conducting particles dispersed in the polymeric resin.
Abstract:
Toughened binder compositions are useful with performs that will be infused with a matrix resin in advance processes, such as resin transfer molding, vacuum assisted transfer molding and resin film infusion, to form composites and their use in such advance processes form the basis of the present invention.
Abstract:
A laminate comprising a layer of elastomeric polyester resin positioned between two nonwoven aramid sheets, and an electrical device such as a transformer comprising that laminate.
Abstract:
An absorbent article comprising a laminated outer cover is disclosed. The laminated outer cover comprises an aliphatic-aromatic copolyester film including a filler material. The aliphatic-aromatic copolyester films have suitable breathability, vapor transfer and tensile strength properties while being substantially biodegradable.
Abstract:
A toilet training article in the form of a toilet training pad containing an effervescent agent is disclosed. The toilet training pad, which may be an insertable pad or integrated directly into an undergarment, contains an effervescent agent which releases gas upon being contacted by urine. The effervescent agent may be in the form of a compound containing a substantially inert gas, or may be a combination of compounds that, upon being contacted by urine, produce a gas.
Abstract:
A water-absorbing material which comprises a copolymer of an anhydrous polycarboxylic amino acid having at least one ethylenically unsaturated double bond per molecule, a water-soluble monomer having an ethylenically unsaturated double bond, and a polysaccharide. It has a high absorbing capacity and high absorption rate in the absorption of pure water, water containing a small amount of ions, etc., and highly absorbs solutions containing a salt in a high concentration.
Abstract:
Multilayer meltblown fibrous webs, as well as apparatus and methods of forming the webs. The webs are produced on a rotating collector that also moves parallel to its longitudinal axis. The webs are thus formed in a helical process, and the resulting tubular web is separated in a direction parallel to a helix angle. By separating the tubular web in a direction parallel to the helix angle, a flat multilayer meltblown fibrous web is provided that allows for incorporation of feathered edges formed during the article's manufacture.
Abstract:
A web of fibers is bound together by a bonding medium that has been activated by partially solubilizing the bonding medium with a solvent therefor. The fibers are insoluble in the bonding medium. As the bonding medium is partially solubilized, it becomes tacky and flows into contact with the fibers and with itself. Thereafter, the solvent is absorbed by the bonding medium, allowing the bonding medium to resolidify and bond the fibers in a matrix, increasing the web strength.
Abstract:
A coating for protection of airfoil surfaces from erosion caused by the impingement of particles in the incoming air stream of a gas turbine engine or on helicopter blades. The coating consists of an epoxy film toughened with hard particles to improve the erosion resistance and softer particles which impede the progression of cracks through the coating. A method for applying the coating is also described.
