Abstract: A modular access medical system (10) configured to enable a surgeon to conduct a medical procedure in fluid contained within a defined space (14) is disclosed. As such, the system (10) increases visibility to an operating surgeon by eliminating smoke and other vapors formed during use of a medical instrument (16) at the surgical site (18). The modular access medical system (10) may be formed from a distal end (38) of a cannula (22) configured to be placed into contact with tissue such that fluid can be administered within the cannula (22) and retained therein to facilitate a surgical procedure to be conducted via one or more instruments (16) extending through fluid contained within the cannula (22).

Abstract: Intravenous sets, port assemblies, and vascular access assemblies can include a vent device for venting gas trapped therein. The vent device can connect to a connector, such as a needleless port having a valve, and the connector connected to an adapter. The vent device can have a valve opener, an engagement body, and a gas-permeable vent incorporated with the valve opener. In use, the valve opener is moveable from an initial non-venting condition, in which the valve opener does not actuate the valve and is held in-register with the valve by the engagement body, to a venting condition, in which the valve opener is actuated to open the valve to allow gas to pass from within the system the connector is connected to then flow out through the gas-permeable vent.

Abstract: An insert for a catheter system may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a middle portion disposed between the distal end and the proximal end. The distal end of the insert may include a male port, and the proximal end of the insert may include a female port opposite the male port. The insert may be configured to extend through an adapter and/or a needleless connector of a catheter system to reduce exposure of the adapter and/or the needleless connector to blood, which may flow through a lumen of the insert. The lumen of the insert may extend through the male port, the middle portion, and the female port. A catheter system is also disclosed.
