The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a reinforcing structure of a tyre for vehicle wheels, on a toroidal support comprising an outer surface, by means of at least one laying element (6), which can be oriented in space in a controlled way; said laying element (6) comprising a laying surface adapted to act on a portion of a rubberized strip-like element (5) for laying the same on the outer surface (3a) of the toroidal support; the reinforcing structure comprises at least a first and a second radially superimposed reinforcing layers each comprising a plurality of strip-like elements (5); each reinforcing layer has a circumferential extension about a rotation axis of the tyre and comprises thread-like reinforcing elements, arranged parallel to one another; the layers are arranged so that the reinforcing thread-like elements of the first reinforcing layer are oriented obliquely with respect to the equatorial plane (Y-Y) of the tyre, and that the reinforcing thread-like elements of the second reinforcing layer also have an oblique orientation, crossed with respect to the thread-like elements of the first layer.

The invention concerns a method for controlling a manufacturing process of components of a tyre for vehicle wheels, wherein at least one elongated element (3) fed by a dispensing member (4, 5) is distributed onto a forming support (2) by means of at least one pressing member (8) acting on said at least one elongated element (3) along a pressing direction (P). The method comprises the steps of substantially continuously detecting the value of a characteristic quantity indicative of the displacement of said at least one pressing member (8) along said pressing direction (P), comparing the detected value of said characteristic quantity with a threshold value and generating a warning signal when the detected value of said characteristic quantity exceeds said threshold value. Such a control method allows the presence of possible deposition anomalies to be identified right from the deposition step of the elongated elements (3) on the forming support (2), so as to ensure ever higher quality levels in tyres manufactured through continuous processes.

The invention relates to a stitching roller (1) for stitching a strip, in particular a continuous strip for strip-winding, wherein the stitching roller comprises a roller body (2) that is rotatable about a roller axis, wherein the roller body comprises a circumferential member (3) and a support member (4) provided with a connection end that is connected to the circumferential member and a base end for coupling of the stitching roller to a rotation shaft, wherein the support member is made of a flexible material that allows for the circumferential member to tilt relative to the base end from a neutral orientation into a tilted orientation, wherein the support member (4) comprises one or more reinforcements that reinforce the axial stiffness of the support member from the outer radius towards the inner radius. The invention also relates to the use of the stitching roller on a tire building drum.

The invention relates to a thread transfer device (100) for transferring a thread (40) on a winding body (42), having a thread guide (10) which can be moved to and fro in a freely selectable manner depending on a movement of the winding body (42) along a curved path (72) which is defined by guide means. The thread guide (10) has a thread guide roller which is mounted such that it can be rotated about a thread guide roller rotational axis for guiding and pressing the thread (40) against the winding body (42), which thread guide roller is configured as a self-guiding roller. The guide means comprise a flexibly deformable traction mechanism (46) which is guided over deflection rollers (48) and/or deflection rods such that it can be moved to and fro, and to which traction mechanism (46) the thread guide (10) is fastened directly.

Assembly and method for manufacturing a green radial pneumatic tyre. The assembly is provided with a rotatable carcass drum (93) for carrying a carcass (92) with a belt/tread package for the radial pneumatic tyre and with a stitching roller unit having at least one rotatable stitching roller (2) having a stitching tread that can be placed against the carcass and a displacement device (6) for moving the roller radially from or towards the carcass with the belt/tread package. The stitching roller unit is provided with an individual drive mechanism for rotatingly driving the stitching tread of the stitching roller, at least without the stitching roller contacting the belt/tread package. The assembly is furthermore provided with a control device for controlling a peripheral velocity of the stitching roller, wherein the assembly comprises measuring means for determining a drive torque for driving the rotatable carcass drum or a quantity derived therefrom, and for giving a signal that is representative for the drive torque to the control device.

During manufacture of a tyre for motor vehicles, one or more structural elements (8, 9, 10, 11) of elastomeric material, such as a tread band (8) provided with a respective under-layer (9), are manufactured by laying a continuous elongated element (117) on the carcass structure (2) or other forming support, which elongated element is longitudinally divided into a first and a second mutually-coupled portions (125, 126) that are obtained through extrusion of two different elastomeric materials coming from respective extruders (120, 121) leading off to a common extrusion die (119). Laying of the coils (128) takes place in such a manner that the first and second materials form a first layer (130) and a second layer (131) overlapping the first layer, respectively.
