    Abstract: A device for the active adjustment of a motor vehicle wheel comprises an arrangement having an adjuster (4) in which the wheel guiding components are articulated on a wheel bearer (6) below and/or above a wheel axis (11) independently of this arrangement and pivotably held on the vehicle structure. The arrangement has an adjuster connected to the wheel bearer via a track rod (5). The adjuster is movable about a pivot beneath the axis of rotation of the wheel via a track rod joint (9) and a steering link (7) on the wheel bearer side depending upon running parameters for the compulsory alteration of the wheel position. The adjuster of the arrangement consists of at least one hydraulic cylinder which can move inwards and outwards to affect the wheel position via an electronic control unit dependently upon running parameters like the wheel spring travel, transverse acceleration, speed, longitudinal acceleration, deceleration, yawing moment and steering angle. This means that the forces, especially the longitudinal forces, can be accounted for separately through the separate articulation of the wheel guide component on the wheel bearer from the track rod of the adjusting arrangement, so that it is possible to make wheel adjustments like camber, toe-in and toe-out unaffected thereby. There is a faster build-up of lateral forces especially in curves and/or changes in track.

    Abstract: An adjustable mount for a motor vehicle suspension arm comprising a U-shaped bracket having a base flange (18) and two spaced apart parallel flanges (19). An elongate aperture extends through the base flange (18) parallel to and between the side flanges (19), a slidable guide plate (4) sliding on the base flange (18). An opening in the guide plate (4) aligns with the aperture and aligned openings in the side flanges (19) secure a suspension mounting bush (12). An adjusting securing member (3) has a pinion on one end which engages a rack on one of the side flanges (19). The adjusting securing member (3) passes through the opening in the guide plate (4), the base flange (18) and the chassis (9), thus clamping the mount to the chassis (9). The mount can be adjusted in the direction X-Y of the elongation of the aperture by rotating the securing member (3) so that the mount moves as the result of the pinion engaging the rack. The adjustable securing member (3) can be locked in position as can the mount to the chassis (9).

    Abstract: In a steering and/or toe-control mechanism for automotive vehicle, it is known to have the steering arm (10) integrated with the suspension upright (30) for maintaining directional control of the wheel, while the upper and lower extremities of the upright are attached to control linkages (20) via spherical joints. In this invention, a universal joint is introduced to cause the steering arm to become an articulated segment of either the upper (20) or the lower control linkage, while the upright (30) depends from an axis integrated into the assembly. With respect to the steering arm (10), the upright thus attached is free to pivot about the axis only in the generally vertical plane, thereby precluding angular changes in the steering arm slope as a result of incremental variations in castor angle arising out of vertical movement of the road wheel. Owing to this, the steering and/or toe-control linkage geometry is no longer under the influence of castor angle variations, and thus the toe-in setting remains fixed throughout the wheel's range of travel. The articulated steering arms eliminate tire scrub arising out of undesirable toe changes, and thus reduce the ensuing tire drag, and thus result in reduced tire wear and fuel consumption, as the wheels rise and drop with compression and extension strokes of the suspension. Conversely, reduced tire drag improves straight-line and cornering speeds.
