Abstract:
A method for operating an electromechanical steering system for a motor vehicle with variable chassis height, - with a steering rack (4), which is driven by a servo motor (18) through a recirculating ball screw drive, - with a control unit (10), which receives input signals and generates output signals for driving the servo motor (18), the output signals being representative of an assist torque (T) to be provided by the steering system, is characterised in that - in operation the control unit (10) is, receiving or generating a chassis height signal (X) indicative of the current chassis height of the vehicle, and - limiting the assist torque (T) on the basis of the chassis height signal (X) to an upper limit, wherein the upper limit is decreased with an increase of the difference between the current chassis height and a mean chassis height.
Abstract:
A power steering system (52) for an off-road vehicle (10) includes an electric assisted power steering (EPS) unit (102) controlled by an electronic control unit (ECU) (108) for adding and subtracting torque to a rotatable steering column (54). At least one sensor (36a, 38a, 152a, 162a, 170) is configured to sense at least one of pressure, proximity, strain, and displacement in at least one component or attachment of the vehicle (10). The EPS unit (102) ECU (108) may be connected to the sensor (36a, 38a, 152a, 162a, 170) by way of an ISOBUS or CANbus network (40), and is configured to use information from the sensor (36a, 38a, 152a, 162a, 170) to determine a weight distribution of the vehicle (10). The ECU (108) controls the EPS unit (102) to adjust the torque of the rotatable steering column (54) as a function of the weight distribution of the vehicle (10).
Abstract:
Abstract:
In a vehicle provided with power steering means of the kind in which a steering reaction is modulated in accordance with the speed of the vehicle, an antiroll system wherein a hydraulic pressure for generating the steering reaction is applied to anyone of suspension units determined by the steering direction to thereby suppress the rolling of the vehicle body, which will be caused due to the centrifugal force upon turning of the vehicle. The excessive tilt upon turning may be thus prevented with the results of improving the steering stability and safety of the vehicle.
