Chiral polyvinylpyrrolidinone (CSPVP), complexes of CSPVP with a core species, such as a bimetallic nanocluster catalyst, and enantioselective oxidation reactions utilizing such complexes are disclosed. The catalytic complexes have exhibited the ability to achieve reaction products have a very high degree of optical purities. These reaction products can be used as reagents in the synthesis of complex organic molecules, such as bioactive products, and C-H bond oxidation of complex molecules including various drugs and natural products.

The invention further provides compositions comprising the block copolymers and applications thereof in various industrial areas including personal care. The invention furthermore provides compositions comprising colloidal particles of the block copolymers. The variables x, y, R 8 and R 9 are described herein.

Methods are disclosed that include elongating a polymeric material, such as an ultra-high molecular weight polyolefin (e.g., an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)) above a melt temperature of the polymeric to disentangle polymeric chains of the polymeric material. The methods provide materials are stable over extended periods of time and that are resistant to oxidation. In addition, parts formed from the crosslinked polymeric materials have, e.g., high wear resistance, enhanced stiffness, as reflected in flexural and tensile moduli, a high level of fatigue and crack propagation.

A method of preparing a photosensitive printing blank, the method comprising the steps of: a) coating a slip film onto a coversheet and drying the slip film; and depositing at least one layer of photosensitive material on top of the slip film coated coversheet and laminating a substrate layer to the exposed surface of the photosensitive material. The slip film comprises: i) a polymer selected from the group consisting of polystyrene and polyvinylpyrrolidone; ii) optionally, an additive. The slip film at least substantially eliminates the formation of hot spots during an analog plate making process.
