Abstract:
Animal skins, pelts, and hides are protected from putrefaction, degradation or deterioration caused by metalloproteinases such as collagenase by applying at least one metalloproteinase inhibitor to a fluid in which the animal skin or hide is dipped or soaked, or applying at least one metalloproteinase inhibitor to a solid surface that directly or indirectly comes into contact with the animal skin or hide.
Abstract:
The invention concerns the use of superabsorbent (co)polymers or SAP as treating agent for preserving animal skins. The SAP is used by itself after a step which consists in a treatment with salt NaCl or another hygroscopic agent, according to the following steps: a) fleshing the skin; b) placing the skin in a kicker machine, with an appropriate amount of the hydrophilic agent used; c) rotating the kicker machine for an appropriate time interval; d) evacuating the liquid absorbed by the hydrophilic agent and part of the salt still in granular form; e) then introducing an appropriate amount of SAP's and rotating anew the kicker machine for an appropriate time interval; f) removing the skins.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for preparing fish leather, which may comprise lionfish leather. A method of making lionfish leather may comprise cutting, using one or more guidelines, at least a portion of a lionfish body, wherein the guidelines are configured to facilitate removal of skin from of the lionfish body; removing, using the one or more guidelines, the skin from the lionfish body, wherein the removed skin defines a cut skin pattern based on at least the guidelines; and subjecting the removed skin to at least a tanning process to provide a lionfish leather.

Abstract:
A process for preserving raw/fresh hides and skins is disclosed. In one embodiment, the hides and skins are treated with an antimicrobial composition containing a pyrithione, a zinc source, and an organic amine, such as an alkanolamine.
Abstract:
A method (500) for processing skin, the method comprising: - freezing (530) of the skin before freeze-drying this, freeze-drying (540) of the skin, application (550) of an impregnation material into the freeze-dried skin.
Abstract:
A skin or hide preservation process that is an essentially dry process for preserving animal skins or hides that involves the following steps, in order: A. determine a water content of primary skins to be processed; D. process primary skins with a predetermined quantity of a dry preservation mixture to create processed skins; such that the dry preservation mixture includes: - at least one solid acid with a melting point above 20º C; and - a salt mixture containing sodium chloride and/or potassium chloride, with the potassium chloride concentration between 0% and 100%; where the mass of the at least one solid acid added results in a pelt pH of 3.5 or below and the mass of salt mixture added results in a minimum concentration of 50g salt mixture/ litre of water within the primary skins after processing.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of combinations of active ingredients, containing phenolic and fungicidal active ingredients, for preserving animal skins and leather.
Abstract:
Use of olive mill waste waters (OMW) in at least one step of the leather tanning process in the tanning industry is described. Preferably, said olive mill waste waters are used as bactericides, tanning agents, or tanning adjuvant agent and/or antioxidant agents to prevent the formation of chromium (VI) during the retanning step. Advantageously, a tanning composition comprising said olive mill waste waters (OMW) and suitable additives is described.
Abstract:
A process for preserving raw/fresh hides and skins is disclosed, in one embodiment, the hides and skins are treated with an antimicrobial composition containing a carbonate and/or bicarbonate salt of a quaternary ammonium cation. Alternatively, the antimicrobial composition contains a halide salt of a quaternary ammonium cation in combination with a second antimicrobial agent which may comprise a polyhexamethylene bsguanide. The compositions are capable of preventing microbial degradation of the raw skins and hides for significant periods of time, such as greater than 48 hours.
