Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a dye scavenging substrate which comprises the steps of: (a) providing an absorbent substrate; (b) passing the substrate through a bath containing an alkaline solution of a dye scavenging compound selected from: (i) a N-trisubstituted ammonium-2-hydroxy-3-halopropyl compound having the general formula (I), or (ii) a salt of epoxy propyl ammonium having the general formula (II), or a combination thereof; (c) subjecting the substrate to a pressure of from about 0.04 MPa to about 0.40 MPa; (d) wrapping the substrate in a water impermeable material and rotating the substrate for a period of from about 12 hours to about 60 hours; (e) removing the water impermeable material and passing the substrate through a bath containing an acid solution; (f) subjecting the substrate to a pressure of from about 0.15 MPa to about 0.40 MPa; and (g) drying the substrate.
Abstract:
There is provided an impregnated natural fiber including a cuticle and an interior lumen, the cuticle circumscribing the interior lumen; and insoluble particulates possessing a preselected property embedded in the fiber. The particulates comprise at least 0.1-30 wt.% of the impregnated fiber and the particulates are embedded on the cuticle and within the lumen of the fiber. The fiber has an increased strength, micronaire value and rate of water absorption. Also provided is a system for surface treating cellulose sliver fibers. The system includes a vessel containing a moist paste which comprises at least one particulate material possessing one or more preselected desired properties, a thickening agent and water. The paste from the vessel is dispensed directly onto sliver fiber ribbon(s). A bore sonotrode generates ultrasonic waves which embed the particulate material(s) in the sliver fibers.
Abstract:
Carbon nanotubes are coupled and aligned in a non-woven sheet as measured by failure strain by drawing the sheet with a coupling agent such as triphenylmethane and preferable a liquid diluent such as chlorosulfonic acid or sulfuric acid. The formed non-woven sheet has a full width at half maximum as determined by wide angle X-ray diffraction of not greater than 20°.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The invention concerns a device for continuously producing a strip (1) which undulates at least in regions and which consists of thin, laminar material which can expand at least in the transverse direction. The device comprises a guide bed (2) comprising grooves which run parallel or obliquely relative to one another and into which the material can be urged by means of holding-down devices (5). Downstream of the guide bed (2) are means which prevent deformation of the waves already formed. The invention further concerns a process for continuously producing a strip which undulates at least in regions. Finally, the invention concerns absorbent articles containing undulating strips.
