Abstract:
Methods for treating a wellbore. An example method includes positioning a conduit in the wellbore. The conduit is a liner hanger or a tie-back liner. The conduit includes a conduit body and a reactive metal sealing element disposed on the conduit body. The reactive metal sealing element includes a reactive metal having a first volume. The method further includes contacting the reactive metal with a fluid that reacts with the reactive metal to produce a reaction product having a second volume greater than the first volume. The method further includes contacting a surface adjacent to the reactive metal sealing element with the reaction product.
Abstract:
A low cost, disposable, molded reinforcing insert which has a metal ring or a circular arrangement of threaded metal inserts encased therein, a low cost disposable stripper rubber for drill pipes or other tubulars which includes the molded reinforcing insert, and molding methods for forming the reinforcing insert and the stripper rubber.
Abstract:
A rotating control device includes a bowl housing with an inner aperture to receive a seal and bearing assembly. A plurality of hydraulically-actuated fail-last-position latching assemblies are disposed about an outer surface of the bowl housing to controllably extend a plurality of piston-driven dogs radially into a groove of the seal and bearing assembly. The seal and bearing assembly includes a housing, a mandrel disposed within an inner aperture of the housing, a first interference-fit sealing element attached to a bottom distal end of the mandrel, a plurality of tapered-thrust bearings indirectly mounted to the housing, a preload spacer disposed between top and bottom tapered-thrust bearings, a plurality of jam nuts to adjust a preload of the tapered-thrust bearings and a lower seal carrier attached to the seal and bearing housing comprising a plurality of dynamic sealing elements that contact the mandrel.
Abstract:
Methods include providing a blowout preventer body having at least one sealing ram for engaging with a downhole tool, and the sealing ram is hydraulically actuatable between a ram open position and a ram closed position. A hydraulic control valve is provided and used for sensing a differential pressure across the at least one sealing ram. The hydraulic control valve is fluidly connected to the blowout preventer body, and the hydraulic control valve operates as a hydraulic interlock to prevent the at least one sealing ram from being moved to the ram open position under predetermined differential pressure conditions. The blowout preventer is connected to a wellhead disposed on a wellbore, and the downhole tool and coiled tubing are deployed into and out of the wellbore.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides equipment and processes for ground heat exchange. Embodiments of the ground heat exchange system may comprise a geothermal well that includes an inner tube positioned coaxially inside a borehole in geologic units, a substantially-liquid impermeable outer liner sealed at the bottom, and a liquid supply system. The outer liner may include one or more layers of a substantially-liquid impermeable fabric or coating. A fluid such as water is supplied by the liquid supply system and flows co-axially through the inner tube. The fluid pressure in the annulus between the inner tube and the outer liner presses the outer liner against the borehole wall, providing sealing contact and preventing interconnection of aquifers of the geologic units.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and device for drilling a pit or passage extending substantially vertically into the ground, and a flexible hose therefor. The method according to the invention comprises of: providing a frame with a pressure chamber; arranging a first outer end of a flexible tube on the pressure chamber using connecting means; - applying a pressure in the pressure chamber with a pressure medium by means of pressure means; and carrying the flexible tube into the ground.
Abstract:
A locking core plug includes an upper plate, an insertion portion extending outward from the upper plate and forming an outer perimeter, and a locking mechanism positioned within the outer perimeter of the insertion portion. The locking mechanism includes a rotating member, a plurality of locking arms having a first end connected to the rotating member and a second end extending outward toward holes in the outer perimeter; and a plurality of guides fixedly mounted relative to the upper plate. Each guide engages a corresponding locking arm to convert the circular movement of the first end of the arm as rotating member rotates into an outward movement of the second end from a release position retracted toward or within the outer perimeter of the insertion portion to a locking position extended outward from the outer perimeter of the insertion portion.
Abstract:
A device is described for a foundation to be placed in a sea bed, comprising a housing-formed, downwardly open, coat-forming construction set up for placing in the sea bed, said construction comprises a top part, and the top part comprises an extended hollow body (140) that stretches a distance into the inside of the construction. The invention is characterised in that the length of the inner pipe is shorter or longer than the length of the coat. When the inner pipe is shorter, its length is of the order of 10-90% of the length of the skirt 10, preferably 25 to 60%, and most preferred 50%. When the inner pipe is longer, its length is more than 100% and up to 300% of the length of the outer coat (10), preferably 150 to 200% and most preferred 300%. A method and different applications are also described.
Abstract:
An annular seal assembly for forming a seal between two annular surfaces. The seal assembly includes an annular base including a sealing surface. The seal assembly also includes a pair of spaced apart rims extending from the annular base opposite the base sealing surface and in opposite directions, the rims also including sealing surfaces. The base is elastically deformable and the rims are elastically deformable relative to the base to effect a self-energized seal between the two annular surfaces.
