    Abstract: A vaporization/pressurization module employs a porous member having a low thermal conductivity and a substantially uniform, small pore size. Liquid feed is introduced to the porous member and is heated, vaporized, and pressurized within and/or on a surface of the porous member to produce a vapor jet having a pressure higher than that of the liquid feed. A substantially vapor impermeable barrier facilitates accumulation and pressurization of the vapor, which is released from the module as a pressurized vapor jet from one or more restricted passages. The vaporization/pressurization module is especially useful for liquid fuel combustion applications.

    Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a flame comprises a reservoir (10 1) for a flame­ fueling liquid, a wick (104), and a collar (106) surrounding the wick. The first end (3 0 1) of the wick (104) is within the reservoir (10 1) and a flame-bearing end (3 06) is above the first end (3 0 1). Flame-fueling liquid is supplied to the reservoir (10 1) and is communicated up the wick (104) to fuel a flame emanating from the flame-bearing end (3 06) of the wick (104). The collar (106) has a central portion with one or more perforations (202). The collar (106) is slidable along a vertical axis between a first and second position. In the first position, the top of the collar (106) is located above the flame-bearing end (3 06) of the wick (104) to block the flow of air from reaching the wick (104). In the second position, the top of the collar (106) is located below the flame-bearing end (3 06) of the wick (104), such that it does not substantially block the flow of air from reaching the wick (104).
