Abstract: Eyewear devices that include two SoCs that share processing workload. Instead of using a single SoC located either on the left or right side of the eyewear devices, the two SoCs have different assigned responsibilities to operate different devices and perform different processes to balance workload. In one example, the eyewear device utilizes a first SoC to operate the OS, a first color camera, a second color camera, a first display, and a second display. A second SoC is configured to run computer vision (CV) algorithms, visual odometry (VIO), tracking hand gestures of the user, and providing depth from stereo. This configuration provides organized logistics to efficiently operate various features, and balanced power consumption.

Abstract: A head-mounted device may have a head-mounted housing containing rear- facing displays that display images for a user when the head-mounted housing is worn by the user. The head-mounted device may have an adjustable-tension headband coupled between first and second sides of the head-mounted housing. The adjustable-tension headband may be operable in a stretch fabric tensioned mode in which tension for the headband is provided by stretching a length of stretchable fabric in the headband and may be operable in a cable- tensioned mode in which tension for the headband is applied by a tensioned cable. A knob or other adjustable cable tensioning mechanism may be used to adjust cable tension.

Abstract: Techniques of tracking a user's gaze includes identifying a region of a display at which a gaze of a user is directed, the region including a plurality of pixels. By determining a region rather than a point, when the regions correspond to elements of a user interface, the improved technique enables a system to activate the element to which a determined region is selected. In some implementations, the system makes the determination using a classification engine including a convolutional neural network; such an engine takes as input images of the user's eye and outputs a list of probabilities that the gaze is directed to each of the regions.

Abstract: It is provided a method for calibrating a transparent wearable display configured to be used in parallel with an external display. The method is performed by a calibration device. The method comprises the steps of: performing a first calibration to define an indicated position on the external display at least partly based on a direction of the wearable display; determining an indicated position on the external display, based on the direction of the wearable display, the indicated position corresponding to a user interface element shown on the external display; determining an element position on the external display corresponding to a centre position of the user interface element; and performing a translational adjustment of calibration of how the indicated position is determined on the external display based on the direction of the wearable display, to move the indicated position closer to the element position.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a computing system may determine a pose of a controller held by a user based on sensor data captured by the controller. The system may determine positions of a first set of keypoints associated with a first portion of a body of the user based on images captured by the controller cameras and (2) the controller pose. The system may determine a pose of a headset worn by the user based on sensor data captured by the headset. The system may determine positions of a second set of keypoints associated with a second portion of the body of the user based on images captured by the headset cameras and (2) the pose of the headset. The system may determine a full body pose of the user based at least on the positions of the first set and the second set of keypoints.

Abstract: A near-eye display device comprises a pupil-expansion optic, first and second lasers, a drive circuit coupled operatively to the first and second lasers, a beam combiner, a spatial light modulator (SLM), and a computer. The first and second lasers are configured to emit in respective first and second wavelength bands. The beam combiner is configured to geometrically combine emission from the first and second lasers into a collimated beam. The SLM is configured to receive the collimated beam and to direct the emission in spatially modulated form to the pupil-expansion optic. The computer is configured to parse a digital image, trigger the emission from the first and second lasers by causing the drive circuit to drive current through the first and second lasers, and control the SLM such that the spatially modulated form of the emission projects an optical image corresponding to the digital image.

Abstract: The user interface of an electronic eyewear device tracks a user's head movement to keep the user interface in front of the user's eyes. A position forward vector, a rotation forward vector, and an up vector are defined to enable the system to individually adjust the rates of translation and rotation of the user interface as the user's head moves through space. By disconnecting the translation and rotation of the user interface from the head forward vector, the rates of translation and rotational movement of the user interface are separated from the rate of movement of the user's head to enable a delay in user interface movement relative to head movement for a more realistic VR/AR 3D presentation. The pitch angle is monitored to maintain the user interface in front of the user's eyes in the correct orientation even at difficult pitch angles such as straight up or straight down.
