    摘要: コアの厚みが大きい光導波路においても偏波変換効率が高い光導波路素子を提供する。偏波分離回転部12を構成する光導波路22のコアC22は、入力端から出力端に向かって幅W1が連続的に漸増するテーパ状に形成されている。コアC22の上面に断面V字状の溝25が形成されている。溝25は、コアC22の上面に、コアC22の入力端から出力端までの範囲に光の伝播方向に延びて形成されている。光導波路22は、その入力端から出力端までの間における有効屈折率が最大となる導波モードがTE0モードであり、2番目となる導波モードが、入力端においてTM0モード、出力端においてTE1モードであり、入力端から出力端に向かってTM0モードからTE1モードに遷移する。
