    摘要: An aneutronic fusion apparatus is disclosed that uses a lithium ammonia fuel mixture as a supercritical fusion fuel of solvated electrons thereby lowering the coulomb barrier to achieve small scale fusion. The integration of alpha sources, magnetic confinement, electrical arcing, and pressure allow for fusion events and chain reactions. The process operates in a cyclical fashion fusing atoms then fizzling creating a diamagnetic pressure in the plasma whose output energy is inductively harvested. Atypical embodiment device includes: a chamber; a magnetic confinement coil surrounding at least a portion of the chamber; electrodes extending into the chamber defining a gap. A device having bidirectional electrode rod arrays has a first array with rods extending in a first direction, a last electrode rod array having rods extending in a second direction opposite the first direction, and one or more intervening electrode rod arrays each having rods extending in both directions.

    摘要: A fusion reactor has a vacuum chamber maintaining a deep vacuum. A first ion beam and a second ion beam are directed within an active space along a first path and a second path, respectively. Each ion beam has essentially uniform energies of ions within each ion beam, and essentially uniform velocity vectors of ions within each beam at points within each path of each respective ion beam. The first and the second ion beams are caused to collide substantially head-on with each other within a reaction zone in the active space, where the ratio of the energy of the ions of the first beam to the energy of the ions of the second beam equals the inverse ratio of the respective ion masses. Energy of the scattered ions of the first ion beam and the second ion beam is recovered, and cold ions are evacuated from the active space.

    摘要: Fusion reactor designs and techniques are provided in which an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) system is coupled to a cylindrical reactor to generate ions within the reactor to form a weakly ionized plasma. An ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) system, also coupled to the cylindrical reactor, is further utilized to accelerate the ions radially in the cylindrical reactor with increasing circular trajectory. The ions are contained within a uniform magnetic field provided by a superconducting magnet coupled to the cylindrical reactor. As the ions are accelerated they also drive neutral particles within the reactor to the same energy level through the mechanism of ion-neutral coupling. Collisions of plasma particles with a target also create macroparticles to form a "dusty" plasma, in which the macroparticles contain multiple charges and masses which can sustain fusion reactions.

    摘要: An example method includes directing gas, via one or more first valves, from within an inner electrode to an acceleration region between the inner electrode and an outer electrode that substantially surrounds the inner electrode, directing gas, via two or more second valves, from outside the outer electrode to the acceleration region, and applying, via a power supply, a voltage between the inner electrode and the outer electrode, thereby converting at least a portion of the directed gas into a plasma saving a substantially annular cross section, the plasma flowing axially within the acceleration region toward a first end of the inner electrode and a first end of the outer electrode and, thereafter, establishing a Z-pinch plasma that flows between the first end of the outer electrode and the first end of the inner electrode.
