    Abstract: An ion funnel fabricated from at least three faces that are each formed from a printed circuit board is described. In one aspect the faces are arranged edge to edge and there is provided a set of guard rails proximal to the edges to bias ions away from the edges. In another aspect slots are provided within the circuit board to facilitate an escape of gases from within the funnel.

    Abstract: A method of calibrating a mass spectrometer is provided. The method comprises generating calibration ions from an ion source. The calibration ions are transported from the ion source to a mass analyser of the mass spectrometer via an ion optics device. A characteristic voltage is applied to the ion optics device to control the transit of ions into the ion optics device and/or out of the ion optics device. The characteristic voltage applied results in an amount of unintentional dissociation of the calibration ions. An MS1 analysis of the calibration ions is performed using the mass analyser to obtain an MS1 spectrum of the calibration ions. The amount of unintentional dissociation of the calibration ions present in the MS1 spectrum is determined. The characteristic voltage of the ion optics device is calibrated based on the amount of unintentional dissociation of the calibration ions present in the MS1 spectrum to provide a target amount of unintentional dissociation of calibration ions during an MS1 analysis.

    Abstract: A high-voltage (HV) power supply outputs an output voltage based on a control signal produced by a dual analog/digital feedback loop. The control signal is determined at least in part by an error amplifier that receives a measurement signal, proportionally attenuated from the output voltage, and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) output signal. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) also receives the measurement signal and transmits it in digitized form to a digital processor. The digital processor calculates a digital DAC data signal based on the measurement signal, and on a digital set-point input signal corresponding to a set-point voltage value of the output voltage desired to be outputted from the high-voltage source. A DAC receives the DAC data signal and converts it to the DAC output signal transmitted to the error amplifier.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for RF amplitude auto-calibration for mass spectrometry. As non-limiting examples, various aspects of this disclosure provide in a mass spectrometer comprising an RF gain block, a peak detector, and a controller: applying a DC voltage to the coil using the controller; measuring a DC calibration voltage using the peak detector; applying an RF voltage to the RF gain block using the controller; measuring an RF calibration voltage; calculating an RF calibration factor based on the measured calibration voltages using the controller; and during operation, and applying a combined RF and DC signal to the RF gain block based on the RF calibration factor. The DC voltage may be generated utilizing a first signal sent from the controller to the RF gain block via a DC amplifier.

    Abstract: An apparatus for ion manipulation having improved duty cycle includes first and second separation regions separated by a switch that alternates between guiding ions to each of the separation regions. The separation regions separate the ions based on mobility over respective time periods that at least partially overlap. The apparatus can additionally or alternatively include a pre-separation region that filters ions prior to accumulating ions, thus allowing an accumulation region to accumulate for a longer time period. The apparatus can additionally or alternatively include a plurality of gates along the separation region(s) to simultaneously filter a plurality of ion packets sequentially released into the separation region(s). Methods for ion manipulation having improved duty cycle involve separating ions on two separation regions over first and second time periods that at least partially overlap, pre-filtering ions prior to accumulation and separation, and/or simultaneously filtering a plurality of ions packets are also provided.
