Abstract: A cathode for a high voltage lithium-ion secondary battery is described, including: an electrode layer having an electrode composition containing cathode active particles, fluoropolymer binder and conductive carbon. The cathode active particles are high voltage lithium transition metal oxides, the fluoropolymer binder is a fibrillated tetrafluoroethylene polymer having high melt creep viscosity, and the conductive carbon is carbon fibers having a specific surface area of about 50 m2/g or less. The carbon fibers and the fluoropolymer binder form a conducting structural web electronically connecting the cathode active particles, enabling electronic conductivity through the electrode layer. The electrode layer is adhered to a current collector comprising aluminum having surface roughness and substantially no carbon surface coating other than the conductive carbon of the electrode layer. Further described is a dry binder process to fabricate such cathodes, and the utility of such cathodes in high voltage lithium-ion secondary batteries.

Abstract: A lithium metal battery includes an anode that has a lithium metal core material and a passivation layer coated on the lithium metal core material. The passivation layer may be comprised of a plurality of layers. The passivation layer is formed by depositing first material comprised of lithium nitrate and a second material material comprised of one or more of a lithium borate salt, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and (vinylbenzyl) trimethylammonium chloride (VBTC). The first and second material may react with the lithium metal of the anode, other battery components or between the lithium nitrate and the second material(s).

Abstract: The present application describes a haptic feedback device based on electroactive polymer structure, fabricated through a screen-printing method, capable of being used as automotive interior leather articles. The proposed thin film electroactive screen-printed polymer-based device reacts to interaction in a haptic form of vibration generated by a thin film actuator. The proposed device comprises an artificial leather surface with a fully physically integrated printed haptic device on its structure resorting to the use of an insulation membrane that also ensures the protection of the device, contributing to its durability.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a metal anode comprising (a) copper current collector (106); (b) a lithium metal layer (104) disposed above the copper current collector (106); (c) a composite coating (102) disposed on the lithium metal layer(104). The present disclosure reveals a composite coating comprising a porous mixed metal oxide and carbon nanotube. The present disclosure also reveals a convenient method of fabricating the metal anode.

Abstract: An electrode material for a lithium ion secondary battery and method of forming the same, the electrode material including composite particles, each composite particle including a primary particle including thermally disproportionated silicon oxide, and an envelope disposed on the surface of the primary particle. The envelope includes turbostratic carbon having a Raman spectrum having: a D band having a peak intensity (ID) at wave number between 1330 cm-1 and 1360 cm-1; a G band having a peak intensity (IG) at wave number between 1530 cm-1 and 1600 cm-1; and a 2D band having a peak intensity (I2D) at wave number between 2650 cm-1 and 2750 cm-1, wherein a ratio of ID/IG ranges from greater than zero to about 1.0, and a ratio of I2D/IG ranges from about 0.4 to about 2.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing zinc negative electrodes includes mixing a powder including zinc with polytetrafluoroethylene to form a homogenous blend, injecting a lubricant into the homogenous blend to form a dough, kneading the dough to form a fibrillated dough, and extruding the fibrillated dough through a die to form a ribbon. The method also includes calendering the ribbon to a target thickness to form a plaque, drying the plaque to form an active material sheet, laminating portions of the active material sheet to a current collector substrate such that the current collector substrate is sandwiched between the portions to form an electrode blank, and sectioning the electrode blank into zinc negative electrodes.
