The present invention concerns a composition being an inverse emulsion comprising cross-linked anionic, organic polymeric microparticles, said microparticles having an unswollen z-average particle size diameter of less than 0.75 μm, wherein the organic polymeric microparticles are formed from a monomer mixture comprising (a) an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, or a salt thereof; (b) an ethylenically unsaturated non-ionic monomer; and (c) from 1 to 10 mole % of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid, or a salt thereof. The invention also provides a process for preparing the composition, the use of the composition in a paper or paperboard making process and methods of making paper or paperboard employing said composition.

The invention relates to a use of a water-soluble polymer product comprising amphoteric polyacrylamide, which has neutral or cationic net charge at pH 7, a weight-average molecular weight of 2 500 000 – 18 000 000 g/mol and a total ionicity of 4 – 28 mol-%. The polymer product is used for controlling deposit formation caused by hydrophobic substances in manufacture of paper or board, where a fibre web is formed from an aqueous suspension of fibres. The invention relates also to a method for controlling deposit formation caused by hydrophobic substances in manufacture of paper or board, where a fibre web is formed from an aqueous suspension of fibres, as well as to produced paper or board.

The present invention relates to a paper-making aid composition including an anionic dialdehyde-modified polyacrylamide (GPAM) and a polyamide polyamine-epichlorohydrin (PAE) resin. The mass ratio of the PAE resin to the anionic GPAM is between about 5 : 1 and about 1 : 1.6. In addition, the present invention further relates to a process for increasing tensile strength of paper, especially dry tensile strength and wet tensile strength, and a paper-making process.

The invention relates to a process for making paper or paper board comprising forming a cellulosic suspension, flocculating the suspension, draining the suspension on a device to form a sheet and then drying the sheet, characterised in that the suspension is flocculated using a formation improving 3-component flocculation system comprising a) a linear cationic or ampoteric co-polymer of i) acrylamide, and ii) a substance with formula (I) with a halide as counter-ion; b) at least one water soluble component chosen from the group of anionic polyacrylamide.non ionic polyacryiamide and polyethyleneoxide; and c) inorganic microparticies, whereby the flocculation system does not contain a wafer-dispersible or branched anionic organic polymer. The invention also relates to use of the flocculation/retention system in the manufacture of paper or paper board, and to paper and paper board thus produced.

Methods for improving the tear strength in non-woven chopped strand mats during the manufacturing process of the mats are provided. In particular, the tear strength of the mat can be improved as the mat is being formed in response to current manufacturing conditions by the addition of a water soluble polyol, such as polyvinyl alcohol, or a cationic dispersant to the binder seal pit. Alternatively, a cationic dispersant may be added to the white water chest to improve the tear strength of the chopped strand mat. The addition of polyvinyl alcohol or a cationic dispersant to the binder seal pit results in an immediate or nearly immediate improvement of the tear strength of the chopped strand mat. Both the polyvinyl alcohol and the cationic dispersant can be utilized to improve the tear strength of a chopped strand mat regardless of the type of binder or components in the white water.

The invention relates to a cellulosic product containing thermoplastic microspheres and a charged aromatic acrylamide-based polymer. The invention further relates to a process for a process for producing a cellulosic product which comprises providing an aqueous suspension containing cellulosic fibres; adding to the suspension thermoplastic microspheres and a charged aromatic acrylamide-based polymer; and dewatering the obtained suspension. The invention also relates to the use of the cellulosic product as a liquid packaging board.
