An armoring system (20) comprising at least first and second strips (42, 52), a forming roll (60) comprising first and second roll segments (71a, 71b, 72a, 72b) disposed adjacent to one another. Both the first and second strips (42, 52) are formed into profiled shapes in cross section by the forming roll (60). The first and second strips (42, 52) are offset from each other in the major axis of the cross section of the strips and simultaneously helically wound into a formed tube after passing through the forming roll (60). The armoring system has an increased production rate compared to a single strip armoring system.

The fiber layer includes a transition zone disposed between the at least one termination end and the center portion, wherein a fiber in the transition zone has an orientation that transitions from the first pitch angle to the second pitch angle.

Provided are wrapping wire with a C-shaped cross-section, and cable wrapping structure and method using the same. The wrapping wire, which is spirally wound around the outer circumference of a main cable (1) and has a substantially C-shaped cross-section, is wound so as to form a first layer wherein the open side of the C-shaped cross-section being directed outward of the radial direction of the main cable (1), wrapping wire (2) is spirally wound at a condition where the wound wire parts are adjacent to one another, and a second layer wherein the open side of the C-shaped cross-section being directed inward of the radial direction of the main cable (1), wrapping wire (3) is spirally wound on the first layer at a condition where the wound wire parts are adjacent to one another. The wrapping wires (2, 3) are configured such that inside surfaces (4a, 5a) of arm portions of the C-shaped cross-section are formed obliquely relative to the radial direction of the main cable (1), and interlock to each other in the axial direction of the main cable (1), in a half-pitch displaced state. The problems encountered when using wrapping wire with a Z-shaped cross-section can be all overcome, enabling easy production and cost reduction of the wrapping wire itself, and structural simplification, size reduction and cost reduction of a wrapping machine.

The invention relates to a method and installation for constructing a layer (12) of armour strips around a tubular core (10) of a flexible pipe. The installation comprises a support wheel (14) comprising a plurality of armour strips (32, 34) having, respectively, two opposite faces (44, 46) and a plurality of pairs of guide members (20, 22). The said pairs of guide members comprise upstream guide members (52, 54) and downstream guide members (56, 58) which are angularly offset from one another, the said support wheel (14) further comprising means (78, 92) of adjusting the said downstream guide members (56, 58) in order to adjust the said downstream guide members into a position such that the two opposite faces (44, 46) of the armour strip entering and leaving the said downstream guide members (56, 58) are substantially perpendicular to the said plane of flexing (Pf) defined by the entering and leaving armour strip.
