To provide a liquid crystal compound, a dicyclohexylethylene derivative, which has a wide liquid crystal phase temperaturerange, a low viscosity, a large Δ⊂ value, a high stability, and an excellent compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds. A dicyclohexylethylene derivative represented by general formula (I), wherein R represents C1-C10 linear alkyl; and X represents fluorine or trifluoromethyl. This compound can widen the working range of a liquid crystal display element because of its high NI point, can improve the response speed of the display element because of its low viscosity, and can lower the voltage for driving the display element because of its high positive Δ⊂ value. Furthermore, it is so stable against changes in environmental factors that it can be used in various liquid crystal display elements of, for example, active matrix drive type using TFT.

An object of the invention to provide a melt-blown nonwoven fabric having superior bulkiness and flexibility attained by means of a nonwoven fabric consisting of thermoplastic fine fibers having a fiber diameter of 20 µm or less spun by a melt-blowing method, characterized in that huge interstitial layers having a width of 30 to 200 µm and a length of 50 to 30000 µm which contain no fiber present or which are mostly occupied by spaces if fiber(s) being present are distributed as plural layers in a cross-section of the nonwoven fabric, and that the said interstitial layers occupy 10 to 85% of a total area in an optional positional cross-sectional area having a cross-sectional area of at least 0.25cm 2 in the nonwoven fabric.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition satisfying many characteristics required to liquid crystal compositions for AM-LCD, having a preferable Δ n value in proportion to the cell thickness, and having very low threshold value suitable for driving at low voltage. The liquid crystal composition of the present invention comprises as the first constituent at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by particular formula (I) and as the second constituent at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by particular formulas (II-1)-(II-7).
