A process for regenerating one or more deactivated cobalt comprising Fischer-Tropsch catalyst particle (s) in situ in a reactor tube, said process comprising the steps of : (i) oxidising the catalyst particle(s) at a temperature between 20 and 400 °C; (ii) treating the catalyst particle (s) for more than 5 minutes with a solvent, (iii) drying the catalyst particle (s); and (iv) optionally reducing the catalyst with hydrogen or a hydrogen comprising gas. Oxidative recovery methods that use oxygen or air for recovery of homogeneous metal catalysts, such as cobalt catalysts, used in for example hydroformylation processes, can be hazardous. Explosive or flammable gas mixtures may be generated inside the process equipment, which can deflagrate upon any ignition source such as a static electricity discharge. The use of a flammable diluent has been found to be a very effective way of optimizing the recovery method, by bringing the resulting gas mixtures above their upper flammability limit. The offgas produced is then also easier to dispose of as a fuel, as compared to when a non-flammable diluent is used.

A process for the removal and recovery of at least one heavy metal and at least one halogen from a liquid stream in a chemical process is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of contacting the liquid stream with a strong base anion exchange resin; and contacting a discharge stream from the first step with a chelating cation exchange resin. The recovery process optionally includes a step regenerating the anion exchange resin by contacting the anion exchange resin with an anion exchange resin regeneration solution to form recovered heavy metals and halogens. Optimally, the recovery process of the present invention also includes a step of regenerating the chelating cation exchange resin to form recovered heavy metals and halogens.
