摘要:
Positional information is provided at a place out of reach of radio wave. The process executed by a positional information providing apparatus includes the steps of: obtaining a received positioning signal (S610); specifying an emission source of the positioning signal (S612); obtaining, when the emission source of the positioning signal is outdoors, a navigation message included in the positioning signal (S622); executing a process for calculating the position based on the signal (S624); obtaining, when the emission source of the positioning signal is indoors, message data from the positioning signal (S630); obtaining coordinate values from the data (S632); and displaying positional information based on the coordinate values (S650).

A positioning device for use with a navigation device, the positioning device comprising input means arranged to receive data signals from a source other than a navigation system; conversion means arranged to convert the received data signals into positional data; and output means arranged to output the positional data for use by the navigation device. The output means outputs the positional data in a communications protocol format, the navigation device is arranged to process the positional data in the communications protocol format.

Techniques for providing an improved position estimate for a device in instances of relatively large dilution of precision. In a method, position estimates for a number of transmitters (e.g., GPS satellites and/or base stations) and a set of initial measurements (e.g., pseudo-ranges) are initially received. An Update Vector for a current device position estimate is computed. Non-convergence of the current device position estimate toward a target position estimate is detected and, if true, the Update Vector is adjusted (e.g., reduced in magnitude by a scaling factor) to increase the likelihood of convergence to the target position estimate. The current device position estimate is then updated based on the (possibly adjusted) Update Vector. Non-convergence may be detec ted based on the number of iterations performed without reaching the target position estimate and/or phase reversal in two consecutive Update Vectors. The scaling factor may be increased with each detected event indicative of non-convergence.

A GNSS enabled mobile device moves from a first area where GNSS signal quality and/or level is above a threshold to a second area where GNSS signal quality and/or level is below the threshold. The GNSS enabled mobile device in the second area determines its own location utilizing previous GNSS measurements in the first area. GNSS signals are received to calculate GNSS measurements whenever the GNSS enabled mobile device is in the first area. The calculated GNSS measurements are utilized to determine a location of the GNSS enabled mobile device within the first area. The GNSS enabled mobile device in the second area utilizes the most current GNSS measurements in the first area to determine its own location. Sensors such as an image sensor, a light sensor, an audio sensor and/or a location sensor are used to refine the location of the GNSS enabled mobile device in the second area.

Method and apparatus for providing authenticated, secure, communication between a gaming host communicating via radio frequency (RF) subcarriers to a remote user device in another location. Location of the remote user device and the host server are determined by accessing signals generated by either Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites, or by terrestrial radio broadcast stations, through a process known as radio frequency triangulation telemetry tracking (RF-3T). Player authentication (identity verification) is determined by use of a personal identification number (PIN). A remote user device may be implemented as a stand alone or self-contained single unit that is portable and can receive communications via radio frequency, or may be implemented as one or more discreet components adapted to be used with a laptop, a personal digital assistant (PDA), or desktop personal computer (PC).
