The method further includes detecting the advertisement insertion cue in the program content stream, and the advertisement insertion cue indicates an insertion point in the program content stream for inserting an advertisement. The method further includes modifying the advertisement insertion cue to indicate an expiration date and time for playout of a first advertisement content to be inserted into the program content stream, and inserting the first advertisement content into the program content stream.

Systems and methods are presented that permit an individual to share digital video between video devices using a cable television system. A first video device streams digital video to a cable headend, which transcodes it and stitches it with other video content, such as a menuing system. The headend then transmits the digital video to a second video device, such as a set top box, for display. The data stream may be controlled using a standard set top box remote control, and the system may be used without purchasing additional hardware or software, or configuring a wireless local area network.

A virtual converged cable access platform (CCAP) system and method for hybrid fiber CATV (HFC) cable networks. The system uses a new type of digital optical fiber node configured to receive optical fiber data packets, and reconstitute the optical data packets into RF waveforms suitable for injection into the system's CATV cable. The system replaces the legacy HFC head end with a simplified "virtual head end". The system's virtual head end operates using a new type of virtual CCAP controller and virtual CCAP software that in turn controls high performance edge routers. Much of the intelligence of running the HFC cable system is managed by the controller software, while the edge router manages the interface between the CATV portion of the system and outside networks. The system can handle even legacy CATV RF signals by appropriate conversion operations, while reducing power and space needs, and improving operational flexibility.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a video data processing method and apparatus, relate to the communications field, and can implement output of arbitrary video data on multiple output channels. The method includes: acquiring a multiple program transport stream identifier of each TS packet of at least one TS packet; acquiring, from a first information mapping table according to the multiple program transport stream identifier of each TS packet, a single program transport stream identifier of each TS packet; creating at least one scheduling queue for the at least one TS packet according to the single program transport stream identifier in the first information mapping table; selecting any scheduling queue, and determining whether a first TS packet of the any scheduling queue meets a scheduling condition; and if met, selecting, according to a single program transport stream identifier of the any scheduling queue, at least one output channel to output the any scheduling queue, and continuing to perform determining on a first TS packet of another scheduling queue until determining on all scheduling queues is completed. The present invention is applied to transmission of video data.
